What is this? A Flare gun?

Anyone know what this is? It doesn't seem to take normal 12 gauge flares.

Have you got a picture with the breech open, or of the barrel (and that little spring thingy on the bottom of the barrel)? It could be anything from a stud-driver to a cattle-killer, to a starter's pistol.

There's no breech to open...whatever it shoots seems to insert from the muzzle...it cocks by drawing back the cocking piece. The "firing pin" or whatever it is isn't pointed and doesn't project into the "chamber" when at rest...it's got me beat. No idea what it is...

Is that "C & M" or "O & M"? If it's C&M there's company that's apparently in the lightning business in Markham according to Google:

C & M Products
189 Bullock Dr.
Markham, ON L3P1W4
Phone: 905-294-9570
Fax: 905-294-9811

Is it a tool?

It seems to be made of cast aluminum...that nail thing under the barrel looks like it's for piercing something.

Did you find a website for that company?

Does the hexagon nut unscrew from the receiver? And will a 12 gauge flare fit wrong way into the barrel or is it too small or large? I am trying to get an idea of the bore diameter.

Unfortunately, no. The only thing I could find about C&M was in a business directory website. Maybe someone wants to call them;) ?

A 12 gauge flare won't quite insert wrong way...very close, you'd almost say it's just shy of the exact diameter.

I wonder if this takes special proprietary flares?

The phone number is right there. Give them a call. One of two things will happen:

1. you find out what it is/does/did
2. you find out it is a tool stolen from them, and they get the rightful return of they're property.

When the trigger is pressed, and the cocking knob pulled to the rear, does the whole thing come apart?

Methinks its an applicator gun for industrial adheasives. The "prick" is for piercing the inner foil seal, after the blade "black thing under the barrel" cuts the tip of the cap off.

No, it's under considerable spring pressure. The nut shape seen can be unthreaded from the body, I think if I kept going it would come apart and the spring would be uncaged. If you pull it back as far as you can and pull the trigger it does nothing...
I should phone that company I guess..it'd be nice to know.

I drew a blank with the phone number...

Mebbe a launcher for shooting a light pulling string across the top side of suspended ceilings ( or other such hard to get at spaces) and then use that string to pull wire or communications cable..........grasping at straws here......springy thing under barrel could be a support for a spool of light string

That's as good a guess as any other...is there such a thing?

The "firing pin" striker thing that pops when you fire it isn't even sharp...it's weird. The spring is under a lot of pressure, it's actually hard to ####.

My closest guess is a beefed up version of this:

Or something you'd find on a farm, like a tranquilizer injector, or cattle killer... Not sure though, never toured a farm.
