What is this? A Flare gun?

Mebbe a launcher for shooting a light pulling string across the top side of suspended ceilings ( or other such hard to get at spaces) and then use that string to pull wire or communications cable..........grasping at straws here......springy thing under barrel could be a support for a spool of light string
That seems to be the best guess yet , here is a high tech version of a cable tool http://tmt.stores.yahoo.net/cablecaster.html

My closest guess is a beefed up version of this:

Or something you'd find on a farm, like a tranquilizer injector, or cattle killer... Not sure though, never toured a farm.

Oh no, a Ramset has a steel barrel and a place to put those cartridges. This is aluminum...
I've seen cattle killer guns too at a gun show, they use a blank to drive a rod out into the cow's head. Different...
That wire projector for cable fishing idea is possible...it must need some special darts or something...maybe it's an obsolete one and there are now better ones on the market?

Won't quite fit a 12gauge shell, eh? Hmmmm....

Try sliding a 12g CO2 cartridge in there.

Interesting idea...that might fit. If it does fit, what does it do?? Maybe attach the fishing line that hangs in a coil on that nail under the barrel to the C02 cylinder with tape, and fire it throught the suspended ceiling area to fish the wire...interesting idea! Why didn't you think of that?? ;)

I'll see tonight if a C02 cylinder fits and if it would pierce it...I have some around...I'll try not to set one off inside...:)

Become dangerous and/or fun.

I like the cable pulling dart launcher idea, but I wouldn't bet on it, it seems like one of those things that looks really cool but ends up being extremely mundane.

Hey! Remember in Live or Let die, that gun that Bond had that would shoot a C02 cylinder into a shark and blow it up?? He ended up blowing up the bad guy with it...hehehe...I should mount a harpoon on the front of the C02 cylinder...hehehe... :D

I think you nailed it Exocet...a C02 cylinder fits snugly in there and that spring plunger under the barrel holds it in place with just the right amount of drag/resistance. I unthreaded the striker assembly from it and it appears that the "firing pin" is missing or broken off. When the C02 cylinder is in place, you can see the cap right in the middle of the striker hole, so...with a new pin of some sort, it'd fire. Kind of cool. It's pretty well made.

Exocet got it plus the other guy who figured it was a line threading gun for wire stringing...

until it's proved otherwise I won't believe that it's for shooting CO2 cylinders.

This thing is short 1/2 of a finishing nail which would render it workable. There's a deep hole for the firing pin...perhaps a little silicone to hold it in place. The only purpose I can think of is the aforementioned line fishing thing...just like that yellow plastic dart gun but using a different method.

:D anytime
when I was a kid I made a firing mechanism for co2 cartridges I would make a "tail" out of a strip of balsa and tape it to the co2 cartridge pull back on the firing pin and let 'er rip (sorta like a bottle rocket but no fire)

How far will one go?

Its been a while but I seem to remember the od one going out of sight straight up.......but it could also hve been because I had realized some simple physics and was running for cover:runaway: :runaway: :runaway:

Looks like a captive bolt gun for cattle...missing some parts of course.

I saw one of those..it had a spot for a .22 blank like a Ramset, and a rod that came out to hit the cow's skull. It was made of solid steel. It was for sale at a gun show years ago...I didn't want it.

yup thats what I was thinking, its for killing cattle or other dinner

My son installed a firing pin today and I fired off a few C02 cylinders...I do believe that is what it's for. Running string through conduit and through hollow ceilings etc. Mundane indeed but still a neat item. That C02 stinks bad btw... ;)
