What is this? A Frankenstein Vergueiro?

Found this on another site, the seller (he is a member here as well), describes the rifle as as:

Portuguese Mauser - Mexican Contract 8MM​

Portuguese M1904/39 Mauser–Vergueiro Rifle
Refurbished in Mexico with crests on handguard and stock
8mm Mauser (7,92x57)

With my limited knowledge I find this very strange, but I might be wrong;

• The Vergueiro action was refurbished to 1904/39, see gas escape hole
• The hinged floor plate of the Vergueiro is gone
• Mexico, as far as I know did not use 8x57 IS, nor did they use Vergueiro rifles
• The barrel looks like it comes from a Persian mauser 98/29, hence the caliber 8x57IS
• The stock looks like it came from a Brazilian 1908/1935 Mauser rifle, there are big gaps from the large ring action

I believe this is a Mixmaster Super Frankenstein.

Am I wrong?

It looks like a M1908 stock that was put on a M1904 Vergueiro, given the stock space around the receiver ring. The front sight does not appear to be the correct style for the pre WW2 modification. Without a close examination, on first glance, it looks like a bubba job of some kind to me, to be honest.

I agree with Nabs, there are several things wrong with it.

Also - the Mexican cartouche on the stock is fake. It appears on multiple rifles that seller has listed, and often in really random areas.

Interesting.

You are right, he has a Columbian Mauser for sale with the same stamp.
Probably paid good money for the stamp, might as well use it, a lot.

Maybe the member will chime in and enlighten us.
