Found this on another site, the seller (he is a member here as well), describes the rifle as as:
Refurbished in Mexico with crests on handguard and stock
8mm Mauser (7,92x57)
With my limited knowledge I find this very strange, but I might be wrong;
Am I wrong?
What is it?
Portuguese Mauser - Mexican Contract 8MM
Portuguese M1904/39 Mauser–Vergueiro RifleRefurbished in Mexico with crests on handguard and stock
8mm Mauser (7,92x57)
With my limited knowledge I find this very strange, but I might be wrong;
- The Vergueiro action was refurbished to 1904/39, see gas escape hole
- The hinged floor plate of the Vergueiro is gone
- Mexico, as far as I know did not use 8x57 IS, nor did they use Vergueiro rifles
- The barrel looks like it comes from a Persian mauser 98/29, hence the caliber 8x57IS
- The stock looks like it came from a Brazilian 1908/1935 Mauser rifle, there are big gaps from the large ring action
Am I wrong?
What is it?
