What is this bullet - mysterious 35cal of unusual design ???

.358 and weighs 256grs and seems to have a lead exposed band in the middle - a very pronounced open hollow point too. Any one seen one like this before?

nice bullet, did you make it for your whelen?
No - it was given to me by some shooting friends so I could try to find out what type of bullet it is. So I'm here looking for info on its pedigree. And yes nice - it looks like a thumper for sure.
 
I wonder what the purpose of the exposed lead along the bullet shank is. If it is smaller in diameter than the jacket, I suppose it would reduce the bearing surface of the bullet similar to the way banding does. I'd like a box of them in .366 or .375 to try though.
 
It could have very interesting terminal ballistics.
Would love to see how it would react on impact.
Can imagine the exposed part in the middle being pancaked out on impact.
 
Looks like a home swaged bullet made with 2 short (half) jackets, one on the top and one on the bottom. Just not long enough to fully encapsulate the lead core. That's my guess.
