They were selling for about $1000-1100 a few months ago in the EE

I see some asking $1200 here and there on the net

I'd say this is about right. I'd be surprised if you'd get $1200 for it. You could ask $1200, but be prepared to negotiate with prospective buyers. Asking $1100 would probably be reasonable. Could be a good donor rifle for an SLR or ATRS build though, so maybe it's worth more than I think...

Those guns have been worth $1000 for the last 20 years. They haven't increased in value at all. Would've been better off trading the gun for ammo. At least it goes up in value.

Any firearms auctions in the past few months have them selling for $1600.00 and up. (not including taxes and buyers premiums)

Auctions are notorious for people paying more than retail for used firearms. As such, auction selling prices are a very poor indicator of private resale value. The same can be said of certain EE advertisers (note that I did not say EE "sellers"), who routinely price their crap at double its resale value. Easily identified by the 20+ "bumps" with no serious offers.

A run of the mill, ban-era AR15 HBAR in "test-fired" condition is worth $1100-$1200 IMHO.
