What is this gun?

For sale at reliable. Called an FN-Sauer. Google gives me nothing but the Sauer 80/90 which is cool but not one of these.

I like the one piece metal reciever. Reminds me of the MAS. Wonder why don’t see more of this in the era of chassis, bedding blocks and ultralight ultra strong alloys. Maybe we will see more of it in the future (SAKO 100 is coming to mind).

It looks like it might have a tang safety. I don’t want to get ahead of myself but I think I love it.

I found a bunch of ads for the same gun but I can’t find any information on it or more specifically what the deal with the receiver is

FN SAUER is what they say on the side of the receiver.

Based on the Sauer 80, made for only a few years in late 70's and early 80's by FN, basically the same rifle as the Sauer 80/CG3000/Colt Sauer but they used a sort of mini chassis to adapt it for 2 piece stock.
For $2200 it's a hard pass, can get a nice CG3000 for under $1000.

Definitely interested in the action. What happened to stuff like this and the Mauser 66? When was the last time a truly weird bolt action came out? The new CZ gets an honorary mention

No I won’t be buying that as cool as it looks. It would be nice to handle and examine though. Reliable gets more then it’s fair share of uncommon odd ball stuff.
That’s where my model 700 222 Rem Mag came from.

Would it have rear locking lugs?

Yes, identical to those on the Sauer 80 and 90 and Colt Sauer, along with the Carl Gustaf 3000 (same action). Three rear flip-out locking lugs on a non-rotating bolt. The lugs are cammed out on closing the action rather than being turned against the locking-lug recesses.
