What is this Rifle

i got these pics from a guy down the road asking me if i knew anything about this rifle, i have no idea so i figured id post it up here.

i dont know anything but what you can see in the pics, he has no idea of chambering or anything like that

its neat looking and i wouldn't mind buying it off him if the price was right. but he wants to know what it is before he sells it.

Any proofmarks - anywhere?

Calibre?

Possible belgian garden gun.The side reciever latch is commonly used on European guns and there should be proof marks somewhere on the barrel/reciever.Not a high dollar gun

Im not there and he has no idea about proof marks and all that. He claims the only numbers on it are the serial number.

I offered 100$ without knowing anything about it other then what you see in the pics. He said thats too low
So im going to pass on it.

But i told him id find out what it is

Belgium Single Shot Rook Rifle or Garden Gun

A side lever rook rifle. An English pest rifle most popular from early 1900s until 1940s. Most often in calibers such as .300 rook or .360 #5. Straight walled kind of pistol powered cartridge. Not much recoil and a short range affair.

I suspect many of these fine little pest rifles made thier way to Canada during WW2 in the duffel bags of trainees. When we trained literally tens of thousands of Commonwealth aircrew, sailors and soldiers.

Look on top or sides of the barrel for manufacturers name and it's caliber. Never seen one in 22 LR.You better hope it's in 360 #5 Rook or 380 (Revolver?) Then there's at outward chance 38 Long Colt or 38 Short Colt MIGHT safely chamber and fire.

Otherwise I don't have another answer for you.

There's a very similar one on our Equipment Exchange. It's been there for sale for several months. Maybe even a year.
