No pictures, in fact I haven't even seen it! I was given on the phone what I will consider an honest description.
1906 Swedish, 6.5 x 55. Completey original, never issued to the troops. Almost all the blue is there and the bore is described as mint, few scratches on the butt stock.
What would be an "I-can't-resist-it-price?"
Thanks guys, I know it is tough, but you guys are good.

Tried to edit the title, won't let me say it is a SWEDE.

Swede rifle

Which model is it, 96, 96/38 perhaps a 94? I would have my doubts about it being a non issued rifle, but they do come in VG condition. The 1906 would have had a walnut stock, replacement stocks may be beech and the numbers are still a match. Does it have the range tag or sticker on the butt? The small brass disc on the butt will tell you whether the bore is a 1,2or3.
YOU REALLY NEED A FEW PICTURES. Sooooo$ $300.-500.
BEEEE CAREFULL, it never stops at one.

It SHOULD be a Model of 1896; the 1894 was a commercial purchase of Carbines. With a 1906 date, it won't be a 38: they came out in 1938!

It is entirely possible for it to be completely original and unused. Stranger things have turned up..... such as the unfired Martini-Henry Mark IV I picked up while I was still in school. That one is still unfired, come to think of it. Once turned up an apparantly-unfired Snider Mark III, and they weren't built yesterday, either. Wish I could have kept that one, but it went to Ontario.

As far as it can't be an M38 you're right but it can be an M96/38 as many were converted to M38 length. I've seen many that look unissued and the price ranges from $350-$500 as stated above.
I also seriously doubt it was unissued. The Swedes rebarreld those rifles and refinished them many times. They liked their rifles to look as new when reissued and replaced stocks quite often as well. There are a few tell tale things that will give the story, un numbered ferrules on a pre 1938 dated receiver, rear sight designs etc. If the receiver is matte finished, it has been rebuilt. The earlier receivers (1906) should be polished, although not to a mirror finish.

Thanks a whale of a lot guys. The owner lives only about 65 miles away, and we will be getting together, probably in a week or two. I will likely end up with it, so will certainly post pictures.
He called it a 96, made in 1906. He did mention the disc on the butt stock, and I believe his description of it. We talked for 45 minutes on the phone, had a lot in common and from the feeling I got of him, I will believe what he said.
And Bearhunter, thanks for that, I will take note of the receiver when I see it.
