Actually you are correct but with average loads it's not much bother,step up to heavy loads or slugs then it is a bit stout.
The 37 featherlight was my first and I still use her,she was my grandpas and I have taken everything from deer to ducks with it.
 
It's hard to argue against any of the classics and the 37 is one. I think they are just about right in a 20.

All of the classics have their loyal followers, but for all who say their favorite is the best ever made such as the one made about the m-12 I say:
Says who?
Why?
and if they were the best, why are they not made?

I don't buy the argument what that they cost too much. If they really are/were the best, there would be those willing to pay. For most I think they are a good $225.00 gun and for $225.00 everyone can afford to try one and determine this best thing for themselves.
I agree with those who suggest a ready made short gun for bears instead of buthcering a classic.
 
The Model 12! I have one and what a fine pump it is! Just squeeze the trigger once and hold the trigger and pump away. (you don't need to repull the trigger after every pump.) Flawless, quick and a real slick performer. Modern pumps pale by comparison.
 
Call Milarms in Edmonton. They always have a few M12s in the rack.

M12 are one of the few shotguns that will slam-fire (holding the trigger back and pumping the action).

as someone previously replied......$225.00 on the EE. That's about right. There lots of them around. They're not rare or hard to find! Lots of plain jane m-12s around with a $500.00 price tag, but they don't sell fast at that price. Maybe in the USA, but not here.
