What is this?

This is a pistol I cant figure out what it is......any markings are very hard to make out...on the cylinder there is a crown with crossed swords under it....under that I think it say ST ETIENNE ( or something very similar to that..even with a magnifiying glass it is hard to tell)..octaginal barral, folding trigger

Kind of looks like a Lefauchaux (I know I spelled it wrong) pinfire. Were popular with soldiers during the Civil War in the US. And that's about all I know about them

It is a belgian (St Etienne) pinfire pistol and looks to be around .25 - .27 caliber. The puzzling thing is the crown over crossed maces which is a British proof and seems to imply the gun must have been imported into Britain. If you hunt further you might find an oval with ELG inside which is the Belgian proof. You may also find an inspection mark; the perron which looks like a miniature Eiffel tower.

Its not military, but commercial. Lefaucheux type in 7mm pinfire..
