I’ve got a friend who’s asked me to value and sell a collection of antique guns. These include an old Enfield trapdoor, a Stevens Favorite, an old Mauser, some blackpowder guns…

In the collection was this item - it’s a stiff steel rod, about 3ft. long with a small cupped disc on the end at a slight angle. It’s doesn’t seem to go with any particular gun and we’re not even sure if it’s gun related. Any ideas what this is?


 
My wild guess, depending on the diameter of the cupped disk it might be for inspecting the bore of a muzzle loading musket/rifle, and missing a small mirror from the cupped disk, although at 3 feet length it would be too short for such as a Brown Bess.
Only good for use outdoors on sunny, bright days or until flashlights were invented.
 
Handicap putter for a leprechaun golfer...unlike the Scottish variants used to harvest haggis off the mountains and craigs, the Irish ones are angled. No one is really sure as to why, but it has been long speculated that it has something to do with the suspenders. Leprechaun's wearing pants (trousers), and Scotsmen wearing kilts you understand?
