This morning I received some news from biologist and game warden and for them they seems vote for a big fisher (pékan)

The head and ears is what me think fisher. but the tail looked to long.

I havent seen one in its summer fur before but the tail may look longer because of the summer coat.

There is a big difference in fisher between the male and the female. I think it could be a old male fisher, albeit the tail does appear a little long.

Maybe the tail is not too long for a fisher.
I just looked them up in my "bible," the Mammals of BC, by Dr. Ian McTaggart Cowan.
Eighteen males measured. Average length 40.5 inches, tail average length sixteen inches.

I would venture a guss at either a fisher, or a pine marten.

Looks like a fisher to me although I've never seen one except in pictures like this one. My vote is for Fisher! Martes pennanti

I've seen fishers and it looks more like a cat to me... could be the camera angle?

Cat... distance from civilization doesn't matter. Last year while out hunting I found two dogs at least that far from the nearest village. A week later I saw them in the same area again and managed to get one into the truck, took it to a vet 120 km away (nearest place with more than 250 residents). The other dog wouldn't let me get near it, I assume it didn't last long since winter was about to set in.

What did the vet say after you drove 120kms with a coyote in your truck?

As for the mystery animal, I'm guessing a Fisher or possibly a big Pine Marten. I wouldn't be surprised to see a cat that far from home (hasn't anyone seen Milo & Otis?), but the tail is too long.

The tail is about the perfect length for a Fisher, it's just wierd that it has almost no fur on it. Mange maybe, I don't know. I do know that I've seen a lot more Fishers with dark fur like that than I've seen cats with long-a** tails.

I'd say it's a fisher, but the legs (particularly the right back leg) seem much too long. Every fisher I've ever run into has been much lower to the ground, or adeptly climbing a tree. Either way, every one I've seen has been a fairly short-legged critter.

I thought a fisher also. See them once in a while where I hunt, but those legs look a bit too long from what I remember a fisher looking like. Too bad you did not get a face pic.

This is a Fisher ..... looks pretty similar, especially the tail.
