What is this

Looks like a sporterized(meaning, for hunting. The stock that is) LE .303. They are NOT rare by any means, but a great gun to hunt with if it shoots straight. They're known to have a buttery smooth action.

So whats involved in putting a scope on it. I will get it checked out...

I have looked into it, I personally would not do that, it's probably a toss up between the Weaver base, Brownells sells a scout scope base for them, but I never ever seen or heard of someone who used that set up, I bought an S&K base but didn't bother with it. Loosen your purse strings and buy something modern if you want a scope on there, but it's your gun. ;)

The barrel does not look like it was cut, and the sights look to be all original. If you wanted, you could get a set of full stocks and restore it to is proper appearance. They look pretty good when they get all cleaned up. Its also fun to have an old looking rifle, catches peoples eye at the range.

And to scope an Enfield No1 Mk3, you can save money and trouble by buying one that already was scoped (i.e. drilled and tapped), they can easily be found. Cheaper and wiser (in my opinion) than damaging a relatively intact one...
