it there to support the wood between the blind mag and the trigger group. its suppose to be there. lol If you pull the action and barrel out of the stock you'll see what its for.

That is not a blind magazine rifle, it is a floorplate 700 BDL and yes it assists in preventing the stock from splitting through to the tang and down the wrist. I stops the bellows effect of the thin wood either side of the magazine box under recoil.
