People !

Lets be logical and realistic here.

I have see a lot of ads on the EE for barreled uppers with no ch or BC for 700 $ ++

A new complete true milspec flat top goes for about 250 $ shipped and a new chrome lined 1/9 Barrel kit can be purchased for around 325 $ shipped including hand guard.

For a total of 575 $ on average, you can have a new upper.

Why are people advertising there sales at 700 $ ? Usually the price of the used does not exceed the price of the new !

And lets be realistic, unless its a Colt or Diemaco complete system, its just too much for a used setup and I dont think a lot of us have those uppers for sale on the E and E from what i read...

Am I missing something ?

Yup - after 5 BTT's you'd think people would get the hint! I'm not talking of just AR parts, but also other ads...

Remember the feeding frenzy of about 2-3 yearss ago? People were paying stupidly high prices for AR's and uppers and now they are dumping them because they aren't the flavour of the day. They are hoping to get their money back. But as everyone above has said: ain't gonna happen!

Definitely a *buyers* market as I found out - I had an AR posted with no hits for a little less than I paid for it... I ended up selling it pretty quick though once I dropped the price to much less than I paid for it.

*Thanks Splatter ;)

Well,

Consider, folks are trying to unload uppers that were probably bought/imported parts when things weren't quite so almost par between dollar values (Cdn/US)...so folks probably paid close to what they're asking for their uppers and such, and figure that they should get that back out of them....despite the reduced value of the USD, and the increase in our buying power, and thus a reduction in price on uppers and parts.

That's my .02 on it.

Actually that's a "buyer's market". When things are scarce and prices are up, that is a seller's market.

For reference, where are those prices from?

You'll pay waaaaaay less for new parts here on the board.

For example a M4 upper with port door and forward assist will run you about $150 or so in the EE.

Prices from wolverine armalite

Barrel - $320
A4 Upper Stripped - $217
Port Door Kit - $11
Forward Assist Kit - $21
Bolt Carrier Complete - $201
T Handle - $43

Now I am not sure if the barrel comes with front sight / gas block, if not add another $97. and carbine furniture would be $36. Plus of course approx 2 hours to assemble. My Shop's rate would charge me $70 an Hour.

Tools to assemble
Wrench - $60
Vise Block - $63

Why buy parts when you can get the entire rifle for a staggering price of only $1500 shipped to your door! (shameless plug, I know).

Admittedly the prices on some AR components have been artificailly high lately.

Well, again to suppot my point, if a complete barreled upper sells for 769 $ new,
A 3000 rdounds used upper of the same type no BC and CH, Should not sell 700 $...

So, that's $769 + say $30 shipping plus 7% GST. If the seller is selling for $700 then *maybe* they are only getting around $670 after shipping.

What if the seller originally bought the upper in Ontario and had to pay $769 plus 15% taxes?

What should the used selling price be in your opinion?

Well in my typical case considering the facts:

-No CH or BC at least 200 $ to replace.

-That the barrel is almost at its half its life,

-And that the price of a new one is now much more interesting for a buyer.

There is no way i would pay more than 500 $ including shipping for a midlife in excellent condition with no no CH and no BC.

Remember 769 $ is the LISTED price for a new mid-range upper, something simpler costs less...

Willswagspal sold me a complete upper (new: Barrel is Wilson Arms, upper is Rock River Arms, internals are DPMS) for less than what folks are selling on EE for their used ones.

Unfortunately for the seller, the original purchase price is completely irrelavent. The only real influencing factor is the CURRENT market price for a new unit. The buyer doesn't give a rat's behind about how much the seller paid for it 2 years ago.... He only cares about paying much less for a used one than he can walk into a store and buy a new one for TODAY.

You're going to lose some money selling used gear. Sometimes you lose a lot. Just accept it.

My advice to anyone thinking of selling in the EE: Check around with most of the better known Canadian retailers and see what your item is selling for new, in today's market and deduct for your wear and tear, lack of current warranty & dealer support, etc. Don't let what you paid for the item enter the equation at all, because nobody cares. They just want to save some money over the price of a new one at today's prices.
