What is up with this flashhider?

This is my gf shooting a friend's gun last weekend. We all knew the gun was a "big boomer" in person (massive sound and flash), but the videos reveal a real fireworks show. Is that just the model of flashhider or what? It may be better to just call it a muzzlebreak, as it doesn't seem to hide much flash. If anything it seems to magnify the effect. Is it the barrel length? My AR with a 14.5" barrel and an A2 birdcarge has almost no flash.
This "boomer" is really fun to shoot though.

That, believe it or not, is just regular old Remington/UMC 55gr. metal case. Just normal ammo. This gun makes it seem like you you are shooting artillery rounds though. Very loud. Big pressure wave, and you feel like you are getting hit by little specs of something... and from the video, it seems that you are!

Here are the videos, they don't do any kind of justice to what is experienced in person:

Its the Primary weapons FSC556 muzzle brake and will increase flash but reduce recoil and muzzle jump. Only great for the range not combat due too the flash "which will blind your NVGs and give away your position :(

ghostie I'll bring up my desert eagle .50AE on saturday if you realy want to see some fire work's!
;)
That Dlask brake shoot's flames even on the 858. I think it's part of the design.

The load was more or less designed for peak efficiency in a 20" barrel. The burn rate of the powder and gas pressure, pressure pulse and volume are all built around the full sized AR / M16, when you cut the barrel shorter than half and then put a muzzle break on it, you get to see what would normally be happening inside the barrel - which is pretty cool really. I wonder how it would look with an effective flash hider on it, something like a vortex would be pretty interesting, largely because I don't think it could handle the volume, but might look really cool trying.

Short barrel + muzzle brake = big flash

Longer barrel + flash hider = much less flash

You are comparing apples and cars.

Your buddy would be better served with a proper flash-hider instead of a brake on that short barrel. Short barreled rifles don't produce as much recoil and have no need for a brake.
