What is with my CZ-858?

Okay, I know about the CZ "gremlin," but is the bolt supposed to stop 3/4 of the way down the rails if you don't #### the bolt handle hard enough? I don't think my rifle used to do this.

See the video below. A hard chambering resets the trigger properly and it clicks when pulled. A soft chambering jams it 3/4 of the way. If you pull the trigger then, it clicks and sends the bolt to where it is supposed to be. If you push the bolt along to the chamber, the trigger doesn't click. Does this happen with you?

Also notice at the end of the video how the trigger waggles when the bolt is manipulated in that area where it jams. What is happening? I know when it fires live ammo the trigger will sometimes click but only indent the primer, and on rare occasions the trigger is not reset at all, but now by dry firing I am seeing more instances of no trigger reset at all.

Yes, oiling it reduced these instances, but I still felt something crunchy and mechanical when the bolt did stick. Should a CZ-858 get stuck if you don't pull back hard enough? I could have sworn it never used to do that.

firstly, semi are designed to have the carrier slam forward when cocking so dont be so timid , let her rip !!!! well, unless you are stalking a game.:D

i think the problem with your carrier getting hung up half way is to do with the SEAR DISCONNECT (SD) , the same SD that cos the GREMLIN EFFECT, which you are quite familiar with.

SD sits in the trigger and part of it sticks up (see pic), and rides under the carrier. when ever the carrier moves forwards or backwards it goes over the SD and depresses it to reset the sear, in your case the carrier get stuck on the SD as it moves forward slowly, it doesnt get hung up when it slam forward.

possible solution 1. the missing trigger spring: look inside the trigger housing, see everything is snug, the pins and the trigger wire spring are in place, quite often this spring is lost during cleaning or simply left out cos its a pain to reinstall, without the trigger spring it would still feel the same and no problem firing but however, the SD will sit slightly higher (1-2mm), high enuff to catch the carrier as it moves forward , thus explains the waggling of the trigger.

possible solution 2. if spring is still intact then you might want to use a very fine emery cloth to polish the front side of the carrier where the SD comes in contact with it as its moves forward, be careful not to polish the bottom point or you will increase the chance of GREMLIN EFFECT.

give that a try. hopes it works for you ... the vid and your detailed description of the problems was a great help.
