I thought it'd be interesting to hear some opinions on a worthy replacement for my mint CZ 858. Not that I'm really looking to get rid of it, as it is my current favorite. Ive been giving it just a little thought, though. I'd like to hear your thoughts on some worthy replacements for this great little rifle.

Must be semi- automatic, equally reliable, more $$ is fine..

PS: Doesn't need to be another Red rifle. Maybe I should've put this in the general section.

Honestly in the price range of a CZ/VZ rifle, sub $1000, nothing for me. Otherwise I would have got one instead of my VZ58.

At a higher price point I would go Bushmaster ACR in non restricted format.

Do you want new production or something found on the EE?

Go for the Tavor, if you don't like it then you can always sell it.

A Tavor would be a possibility for sure. I'm really liking the Famae SG 542. It'd be tough to let go of the 858, but I'm going to give it some thought after Christmas. Too bad those STG 44's are only coming in .22 or that'd be another option. SKS doesn't do much for me.

Xcr? Can stay with 7.62 or go any calibre. Can get one for $1600+ not a huge amount more than a cz compared to going tavor or acr. It's also Kalashnikov based but AR like at the same time, kinda best of both worlds.

SKS will outshoot and outlast your vz585 and cz858 period.

Outlast yes. Outshoot not a chance. Period. Haha don't get me wrong I love my sks but my cz is more accurate. I shoot the same ammo in both rifles.

Do you own both rifles or just going off pure speculation? Have you had considerable trigger times on both rifles, or just shot a buddies once?

An back on topic, I dont know op, the 858 is very hard to beat. I have a brand new xcr and fancy sights and everything ($$$$) but I still might love my 858 the most. Kinda makes me sad considering the price difference haha. All that money and I'm still back with the CZ

I owned both for quite a while actually.

Maybe one or the other of the SKS or my 858 was either very accurate or a dud from the factory but I have never noticed any discernible difference in accuracy between the two and I've shot them a lot. I only shoot for accuracy at 100 meters plus with my milsurps, it's pretty much all I do with any of my rifles now that I think of it lol

The only thing I noticed for bottom line efficiency between the two was the look cool factor of the CZ for pointless Barbie doll accessories and the removable mag (pinned to 5 anyhow so who cares) I never really fell in love with my CZ, I just sold it recently. She sold fast and she sold high.

I'll never part with my SKS, getting the job done since 1949 baby!

It does what my CZ did; exactly the same, with the same round, with a price tag that reflected the actual value of the gun :D

Wolverines upcoming VZ 958 might be a worthy replacement for the 858, as that is the 958's intended purpose. No details released yet.

I replaced my 858 with an XCR. I bought a few nice sks' also since but quickly sold them again. I hunt with the XCR too and 223 isn't legal for deer here so that edged out the swiss for me. I have no regrets.

Right on man, to each own. Like I said I do love my sks and was shooting with it last summer at 300 yards at a big old tv. Loads of fun. The sks should be in every canadians collection and is by far my most reliable semi auto I own (puts my 2200$ xcr to shame).

That being said my cz is bone stock with iron sights. I'm doing about 3.5 inch groups at 100 prone no supports, just elbows in the dirt
My sks group is around 4.5 to 5 inches same distance same prone

So for $500 extra I get a 1 inch tighter group @100 yards haha. But my cz is simply bada$$ and for that reason I love it. Follow up shots as double taps are awesome with her, ergos are decent and she just feels good.

Op, keep your cz and buy an sks. All this sks talk is making my finger itchy, I'll be bringing out my sks when I'm sighting in the Swiss k31 I'm getting for Christmas ;). Happy shooting boys

Edit- fwiw my XCR in prone @100 gets a hair under 3" again making the sks looks awesome :(

Aye, the difference is so tiny it's negligible due to shooter, ammo quality etc etc.

Meh....SKS for this dude every time. Bang for buck it beats the CZ hands down by long shot.

As for replacement, I've been tracking the type 81 with much patient interest.
