What is your #1 10/22 upgrade?

here's the order I did mine...

1) auto bolt release
2) hammer & sear (power custom)
3) buffer
4) bolt radius mod (cycles reliably with anything & everything)
5) extended mag release
6) stock (boyds evolution)
7) barrel
At some point I'll upgrade the actual trigger to one with over-travel adjustment

yep... not much that is left stock on this :)

ive got 5 10/22's

it depends a lot on what year of gun you have and what you want to do with it.
my mid 80's one has eaten tens of thousands of round with no problems stock with nothing changed.
i recently replaced the guts of the trigger with VQ stuff and that is nice stuff.

my 90's one is all stock with the exception of the stock.

my 2013 is stock with the exception of the fiber optic open sites.

my other 2 are custom made ones.

if i had to pic one thing to do to a ruger? id say the stock. id either pick up a hogue stock or something like that, its the part you interface with when using the gun so it has to be comfy.

from there you can trouble shoot your own gun.
if its a new one and the trigger sucks then your gonna be working on the trigger.
if you like open sites you may wanna swap out for some fiber optic or a hooded adjustable.
the extended mag release makes shooting nice.
the bolt release, while no big deal, is neat and can be done for free.
the bolt buffer is cheap and makes shooting a little nicer.

id say if i was give a new ruger and asked what to do with it to make is nice id go;
1) Hogue stock
2) TS extended mag release
3) Kidd buffer bolt (the one with the metal pin with rubber outside)
4) trigger job (either do one yourself or send it off to tombstone or replace with VQ or buy one) *only if ya hate the trigger*

thats the problem with a gun that us like lego, you can do anything to it.
or nothing.

The number 1 mod would be an auto bolt release. I currently have several 10/22s. ALL of them received a full VQ trigger, bolt release, buffer replacement kit. They function flawlessly with zero issues since the upgrade….Now if someone could keep minimags in stock so I could buy more than a few hundred at a time that would make my year!

+1 on everything!!!!!!!!!

Ah well kiddies,
Function 1)Extractor- doesn't matter which upgrade
2)Mags- stock or Butler Creek
3)Ammo ?
Accuracy 1)Ammo?(Mini Mags)
2)Barrel( Dlask is both good and available)
3)Trigger- reworked stock unit
- trigger kit
- Timney or other drop in
Less differences than you would think.

In all seriousness, I just built one for my daughter. I installed a Dlask guide rod and charging handle, bolt release, buffer, and my smoothed over bolt with upgraded extractor. That's it. Works great.

If the law was not a problem, 3 upgrades
1, a suppressor
2, a full auto sear
3, a tuffer buffer bolt buffer.
Here in Canada however number 3 is the only mod I made

I do this too all the 10/22 that come my way.. in this order & I only use these brand parts. ( Power Custom, Volquartsen or Kidd. ) Note: the first 3 parts should cost about $40 or less & the first 4 things listed will make your gun handle a lot better.

Ruger's extractor & firing pin is a stamped parts & the after market parts are way better then a factory part. These first 2 parts alone will help with the total function of the rifle.

The firing pin will help with ignition of the rim-fire round making more positive contact to the small primer area of the 22LR round giving you a chance of sending the round down range with less misfires.

The after market extractor will help eject that small brass lip that's on the 22LR it has a sharper edge / claw which helps remove the spent brass.

1, extractor
2, firing pin
3, buffer tube
4, Hammer & sear kit
5, Automatic Bolt Release
6, Extended Bolt Handle
7, V Block
8, extended magazine release
9, bed the action & stock.
