what is your .223 hunting rig?

Stoxk factory winchester xtr fwt with a 2-7 scopechief. Use 40gr nosler varmint bullets.
Use it for ground hogs and coyotes
I honestly dont use it much but its mint

223AI sako vixen, 45 tsx, 50ttsx, black bear and down.
223 Ruger American, 50 gmx, 62 ttsx, black bear and down.
223AI Kimber Montana, 75 Amax, 62 ttsx, (mostly 75 Amax though), black bear and down.

Most recently it was a Tavor with 62gr ttsx for deer but also used a Rem LVSF with 50gr tax on bears and coyotes, a Savage and I killed a very large black bear with a Mossberg carbine and a 55gr Nosler Ballistic Tip.

I have a M700 with a 22" BRUX 1:8" sporter in a Bansner stock topped with a Redfield Revolution 4-12. Shoots 53gr TSX for deer when I get to go. :(

any particular reason you're not using the heaviest weight hunting bullets available?

and Gatehouse, how big are the deer and bear you've taken?

same for you SuperCub...what are the general weights of the deer taken with such a light bullet?

We only whack gophers.

Here is my fav .223 bolt action, a Savage Hog Hunter converted to DBM. Fugly but I don't care. :)

Bought for 469.00 when the dollar was close to par. Very accurate and handy!

And my Savage .17HMR for under 250 yards. :)

Being 20" and 16" barrels I use this case to wak into fields.

Our deer are very large, we don't hunt deer with .223's.

I use .223's on jack's, and fox and coyotes, and g-hogs... I have an K77 MKII Standard with VX-3 4.5-40X40, an M77 MKII RL with VX-3 3.5-10X40 and a M77 MKII Target with VX-3 6.5-20X50... which one gets pulled from the safe depends on what the task at hand is. I have loads worked up for all three, including sub-sonic loads for whacking grouse and hares.

A model 7 with a 12 twist benchmark shooting 40 gr Vmax.

my current 223

Ruger m77 Gunsite Scout
16.1" 1:8 barrel
Leupold VxR 3-9x40 CDS

So far it has killed rocks. Shoots very very well with any bullet from 40gr Vmax to 77gr Nosler HPBT. If I had to pick one it would probably be the Hornady 75gr Amax. Basically a high volume practice rifle that will be great for calling coyotes.

I shoot a 50gr SPSX in front of a max load of 8208 XBR out of my Howa 1500 lightning. I use it for magpies, crows, coyotes, deer and when butchering 1000 lb+ steers . I have an older Bushnel 3X10X40 scope mounted on it.
I have a Sako Varmint laminate topped with a Burris 6X24X50 Black Diamond that I mostly shoot 53gr Vmax at gophers and coyotes. I have other loads worked up for it but they are used mostly for shooting the gong.

I have learned something, when i took the hunter education course 12 years ago, the instructor told us that the min caliber in ontario for deer is. 243 (. 240 was a typo). I just looked it up in the ge regs and you are right!
