Having just come back from an ATA State shoot in Montpelier, Vermont, I can say that looking at the average scores of the vast majority of competitors there would make most of us depressed. It was rare, very rare to see anything below 90 for 16 yd singles, with most in the 95 or up (with a good number of 100s). And this was in AA through to D classes. But most hard core ATA shooters have many, many years of practice behind them and have decided to compete because they're fairly good at it, newbees and casual shooters are somewhat rare at these expensive shoots. I would therefore venture to say that most trapshooters do not shoot ATA matches given the time and money required to register targets, and those who do are not representative of the average trapshooter since they tend to be at the top end of the competitive scale (I know, I know, there are always some exceptions).
Myself, I consider it a disaster to shoot anything less than a 23/25. But still I sometimes have disasters!
