.375 H&H has as much in common with .45-70 as a corvette does with a VW hippie van, so I can’t vote in the poll unfortunately. The groups assembled muddle the meaning terribly, a .28 Nosler and a .338 Win in the same group? :)

My usual go to is 7x57 for critters that don’t bite back, and .375 H&H for guiding and those that do. But in recent years have just ATC carried a Glock 10mm for work, as I rarely hunt for myself anymore. When I do the last gun I used on game was my 5.6x50 Mag for black bear.

With only 10 poll options available, and with a bunch of people wishing their cartridges named for a polling options, I tried to group cartridges together with similar muzzle energy. I understand that the 28 nosler and the .338 Win have different characteristics, but I didn't see any other way to group other than average muzzle energy. If I could change the poll, I would edit it to have 280 rem into the 270win and 308 group, and I would have now taken the time to include a bunch more cartridges, but the poll is set as it is.

Just tried to encompass too much with it. .338 and .375 Mag are very similar, as are 6.5PRC / .270 WSM / .28 Nosler. The categories render the information about as useful as the answer to, “Do you hunt with a rifle?” ;)

The thread itself will spawn good discussion however.

Right now I have the option of 6.5CM, 30-06, 300 wsm, 300 wm, 375 H&H. I'm looking to narrow that down to the 6.5 , 30-06 and maybe one other chambering.

I think it will still show some interesting numbers, at this point in the poll, 4 times as many people hunt with the 30-06/7mmRemMag energy cartridges over the 25-06/6.5x55, and 10 times more than the 243 win

the 6.5 PRC and 270 WSM are similar, but the 28 Nosler is a much higher energy cartridge than the first two.

Problem with the poll, is that a lot of guys match cartridges to game
size or hunting terrain or conditions...

I don’t use the same rifle all my hunting.

Current 3 centerfires I own now are 308 Win, 280 Rem and 257 Weatherby Mag. Strictly deer hunting in the dense woods I'll take the 308. If I'm hunting the field, it will be the weatherby. The 280 is for sale, only because I'd like a shotgun for bird hunting.
