hey guys,

im looking to get my first .45 and dont quite have $3500 for a nighthawk custom grp. So im just wondering what your favorite .45 you own that is less than $1000.

It's going to be a German built Sig P220 I just bought and am waiting for! :)

I bought it from Arma coat but i'm not sure if he has any left. Wolverine has some in stock

+1. Sig 220, I love mine and so does everyone else that I let shoot it. It's just a perfect .45.

Top 2 in no order:

S&W M&P45
SIG P220 - I saw a few dealers that have German made ones for ~$900 on some special deal but otherwise they are ~$1100+. If they are all sold out your best option is the M&P.

Ruger SR1911 is another great choice but you have to commit yourself to mastering the 1911 to truly enjoy it. A 1911 is not like a Glock or M&P where you just shoot it dry and clean every once in a while, etc and expect it to always work. Maintenance and the ability for the end user to diagnose certain things are required. There is even a unique way to apply lube to a 1911 (if you don't think there is, then you don't know how so don't talk smack pls lol). Having said that, this becomes more of an issue with 1911 builds where parts need to be fitted and different parts of different spec are swapped out, etc so it won't be as bad if you just buy a good quality 1911 and keep it stock, but what I said still stands. Maybe you have a friend who loves 1911s who will show you everything. Or read Hilton Yam's blog. There are other good 1911s under $1000 but I think the SR1911 wins in the sub-$1000 1911 category.

Honourable mention to Glock 21SF but you either need large hands or be okay with the size of the grip otherwise it's just too big.

If you go over $1000, you can also add HK USP45 in there as well as a whole variety of more 1911s. I know you asked for sub-$1000 but with the cost of .45 ammo, 2 cases of .45 would cover the difference and that is nothing in the realm of round counts.

It is a toss-up between my SAM Commander .45ACP and my 1873 Single Action Army (Reproduction) in .45 Colt, I bought both of them for less than $1000.

Hmmm, I'm sure my thought... "Your favorite handgun is the last one you purchased" is something someone else would have said....

First, assess why you are buying the handgun and for what purpose? Maybe it makes more sense for you to spend a lot of money on the .45acp of your dreams, Vs. trying many brands a lower costs.

I picked up a Shooters Arms Manufacturing stainless .45acp 1911, a compact Titan, from Wolverine Supplies for I think $675.00... though I see it is listed for $650. It is a very compact gun, and in the US would have a barrel to match the shorter slide. For Canada, the SAM Titan comes with the Canadian minimum 4 inch and a bit barrel, which on the Titan frame, extends beyond the slide.

I attribute the reasonable price (having now shot the gun & all) to SAM simply not having a brand name which would command a higher price.

Wolverine Link: (yep, sponsor of gun nutz, so all good):

@Youareinoilcountry: the reason for the purchase is for headshots on zombies. I don't have a .45 of my dreams yet. But if I find one ill keep that in mind. Maybe consider the usp

@sambaru: good info about the 1911's. Also ill try to get my hands on the P220 and the MP.45 next time at the range. I do like the look of the ruger sr1911 though lolz

Got mine for $839 @ Arma-Coat. Best purchase I've ever made. If you are interested, give them a shout and see if they still have some. These are $895 at Wolverine and I know some others have them.

If you keep an eye on Canada Ammo they often feature the Norinco combo, which includes your choice of .45 (blued,two-tone,or commander) plus 1000rnds .45acp for $599.00. These gun's are well worth the price alone, and with the ammo included, this deal is a no-brainer...
