What is your favorite milsurp to take to the range?

OMG!! I want one!!

My favorites:

1874 Gras
1916 M95 long rifle
M48A Yugo Mauser

M44 Mosin (Polish) might end up on top of that list soon.I'm working on loads for new NOE 200 Gr mold and so far groups look good to VG.

Winchester 1897: That is a beauty. I have an IH as well. Did you do anything to your stock to give it a cleaner and shinier finish? Mine is a bit darker and I have not done anything to the wood. I like to keep things as original as possible but a lot of these rifles are making me reconsider this approach?

Thanks.

Thanks Alfonso, I bought that Stock set off a guy in Michigan about three years ago. It is an actual IH Stock. His hobby which is likely pretty lucrative by what I paid him for it, is reconditioning old Stocks. He apparently sweated out all dents leaving the cartouche marks in place and then putting several rubbed in coats of raw tung oil.

The trigger group and bolt are all IH parts also.

anything mosin nagant

my russian rifles and my chinese copy of a russian sks. My buddy has a 1919 that is super fun too

My Martini-Enfield Artillery Carbine Mk.II, 1898 dated and stock disk marked to the 3rd Lanarkshire Scottish Rifle Volunteers, issued in April, 1899. :)

I'm really surprised by how many are saying their SKS. I also own a Tula 1953 laminated stock SKS which I have yet to clean off the cosmo and shoot lol. Many of you are going with 19 century rifles as well. I don't think any one has mentioned a K98 all though a few have Mauser variations. A few Swiss rifles too. What about the Springfield 1903? Isn't this supposed to be one of the best! The reason I started this thread was because I am contemplating buying an 03 and was expecting more people to bering them into the conversation lol.

Enjoy to shoot:

Danish Garand, any SKS or my SVT 40.

Enjoy to shoot, clean and load for:

Fin M39, or N04 Longbranch in 303 or DCRA 308.

I like the semis but they are a but more work to clean and definitely more loading to do. I can spend 2 hours with 20 shots and a bolt action. 20 shots with a semi, less than 1/2 hour.

The only "true" milsurps I have my SVT 40s, and they are a hoot at the range. But my SKS's are my favorite long guns to shoot, period.

Thankyou. The Barrel is SA 5535448. Looks like a 1963 as the numbers follow as such, 11 63 MD37.

I was thinking it would be SA. Was looking at a Tankerized IH on the weekend and it was wearing a SA barrel too. Makes me feel more like it was a complete original that was shortened. I believe it was a 53 barrel and the S/N was low IH manufacture in the low 4s.
Might be a candidate to return to its full lenght glory!

I traded it for a lovely 30.06 BAR with a synthetic stock. Seems to be my favorite now. I made a promise to her to give a rub down tomorrow morning with tung oil :) Shoots quite well and has a LMR OP rod.
