What is your favorite milsurp?

Mauser 98

First rifle was a Yugo K98. I drooled over mint condition No.4s while waiting for my PAL. They were still around $500 at that time. But I payed zilch for the k98 so I stuck with that. The nice L-Es I want now are double price... One day there will be a 1950 Long Branch No.4 MkI* and a Fazakerley No.4 MkII in my safe.

My '43 Springfield M1 Garand.

Although she has a VAR barrel, I've obtained all the correct parts (except for the barrel) to return her to wartime trim. Stock's a bit rough but still has the correct cartouches. Plus PAL bayonet and 1907 sling.

sold my k98 snipered up, sold my m1 carbine (restricted ...meh not worth the risk),sold my mosin nagants ...couldnt get those to shoot ..go figure ...... so i guess not those

now id have to say my garand (if i can get the darn thing to work properly ....grr) and my jungle carbine ...heck even re watched jaws and saving private ryan with the garand next to me ...lol ...so that must be it

I've owned a lot of different MILSURPs over the years, but my sentimental favourite is the S&W Pre-Victory revolver that was carried by my uncle from Normandy thru to VE Day. He mailed it home in pieces before shipping home and kept it until his passing 9 yrs ago. He last fired it in anger to shoot a coon that had foolishly decided to move into his attic out on the farm. It's a bit the worse for wear after being carried across Europe, but is still tight and shoots well. I have a photo of him carrying it slung low in the open top web holster. That, and his slow way of talking, earned him the nickname of " Sherrif" inhis unit.

My great Steyr-Hahn (mod. 1912) pistol . A fantastic workmanship! And what a look... Still deadly accurate.

For shooting, my made in 1911 Swede 96 in 6.5x55.

For accuracy a red-banded US M17 borrowed from a neighbour. The receiver sight suits my aged eyes better than the ramp sight notch in the Swede.

M1 Garand & M38 Swede Mauser on tops on my list.

Now that I think about it, I am very fond of my Chilean contract example, the quality of workmanship is not duplicated on another milsurp that I own at this time.
