What is your favorite wildcat caliber?

Supercub.
If I were interested in any of the improved version which I not, I would go with the 270 Redding. As far as the 270 win, I have one and it does work very well. I do not think that the wsm versions are worth the expense.

For the most part, the purpose of a wildcat is to improve on an existing design in one way or another. The recommendation of the Redding or Improved version of the 270/308 was mentioned because of the fact that the dies and reamer would both be special order and if one was going to go to that much expense, he may as well go with the improved model for the same cost.

The non-improved 270/308 offers absolutely no advantage or improvement over the factory 260Rem or 7mm/08.

Getting back to the original question. What is your favorite wildcat caliber?

If I had to pick the favorite it would be either the 257AI, 223AI or 250AI

I didn't say anything about awesome or knock the performance in any way... BUT.. I don't understand how a bullet .007" smaller in diameter and at less velocity can be so awesome over the 7mm bullet. And yes, I said less velocity.. it is a fact as you neck cartridges down with all else being equal, you lose velocity. Not much in the example of a .270 and a 7mm bullet, but it shows up more with bigger differences in diameter.

I simply commented that not many 270-308's are made and gave the reasons why.....

If you want to make any wildcat that is perfectly fine with me, it is your money...... but if you are making one and professing how practical and how much better it is, you may get a lot of differing opinions on that.

No flame intended here Dennis and I totally see what you mean...............I just like .270 cal.........and besides .007 ain't much smaller............but neither is .007 much bigger.;)

Wildcats

Had a couple of Gibbs Wildcats from Gibbs rifle products in Lethbridge AB {Ron Propp}. The maximum case capacity of all wildcats base on the 06 case. All proved to be accurate and fast, relying on 26" barrels to meet velocity claims. The 240 Gibbs was Rocky Gibbs favorite chambering.

My preference other than the Gibbs cartridges is the "375 Chatfield Taylor". H&H ballistics in a standard length action.

mmmmmmmmmmm

since l just finnished another 270-08 improved 40 degree shoulder, max hv hart barrel [my 3rd one] l can tell you that it is a very very efficient cartridge,it excells with 130 grain bullet and reloader 22 ,it also does fairly well with 140's, but anything heavier and downhill she goes quickly, with the 130 grainers l have obtained speeds well over the 270 winchester and a lot less powder,l also had a 270-08 and in my opinion, please note l said my opinion!it was not worth the expense.and as far as any additional expense for the 270-08 ai the dies are the only thing that are extra,so l guess different strokes for different folk and thats what makes it interesting.?

Bullcoon: What kinds of velocities were you getting? How much powder and what barrel length?
I was getting right around 3175fps with 130gr X and RL22 out of a 22" barrel

edit: with a .270 Winchester and 62.0gr of RL22 - this is max.
