What is your go to optic for your black rifle?

Aimpoint T2 & Aimpoint COMPM5 now also / Trijicon 1-8x28 & VCOG 1-6 / Specter DR1-4 but it’s now just sitting in its box...

A lot of eotech love for sure.

Maybe help to narrow it down, I will say (personal preference) I HATE the look of the red dots and a magnifier. lol

I have been looking at fixed 3 and 4 powers.

Drop rets are preferred but who knows how well they work.

This is a one optic fits it all objective. Im thinking a 1-6 or 1-8.

What is the primary arms ret like ? Tradition cross hairs ?
I dig the Vortex strike eagle ret.

Im going to be slapping steel out to 300 (and coyotes) also running and gunning. So I definitely think I need a variable power.

There are a lot of good one out there.
For value for the mooney, I am a fan of the Buris AR332 for cqb type and the Hilux CMR for mid range work.

CZ scorpion Evo: Aimpoint T1
10.5" Spikes AR: Aimpoint Comp ML3
14.5" noveske AR: Elcan specter DR 1-4x
16" BCM AR: Nightforce NXS 1-4x
18" Colt AR: Vortex PST 2.5-10x

The aimpoints are great optics, and while they're certainly capable of shooting out past 300m, I wouldn't use them unless I really had to.
The 1-4x optics are my personal favorite. They both allow options on rifles that are more capable of shooting out to distance, and I've yet to find any credible draw back to them other than added bulk.
The 2.5-10 is on a rifle that is never going to "really" be run hard, other than bench shooting so I have no honest need or want for any lower power than 2.5x

Oh I like the Hilux CMR

I have two of these, great optic for the price.
Depending on your budget I would go with an Aimpoint PRO if you are going to do 90% of your shooting at under 100 yards, I'd go Hi-Lux CMR (from Wolverine Supplies) for a $400ish 1-4 with zero-stop turrets and a nice BDC reticle, If you have some more money a Sightron S-Tac 1-7 (from Mystic Precision) would be my all around choice with a true 1x power for CQB type shooting and 7x for reaching out a little farther, at around $1000 it's another great choice.
I also have an Aimpoint T-1 which is a great dot sight but the price is pretty high, I also like my Elcan Specter DR but unless you want to spend $2000+ on a 1x/4x, nothing can touch it for optical clarity and great reticle. My only complaint with the Specter is that it has kinda short eye relief but it's nothing you can't easily get used to.
I also have a Vortex Viper PST 1-4 which is pretty nice even though I'm not a huge fan of Vortex. I'd take a Sightron over a Vortex every time given the choice.

I just shoot irons out to 200-300 yards. Find it a lot more fun personally.

If I was doing 3 gun, I would probably get a SIG Romeo 5

Irons on everything because they do not need batteries, fog, fail from water, recoil, or rough use.

Yes I know the highend stuff is tough, but when it comes to sights, only irons are what will be working after batteries die.

The following are what I have irons on:

1. Pistols
2. Bolt actions
3. Semi Auto rifles
4. Shorty 12 gauge

Nothing is a glass only gun, period.

My guns have Red Dots, compact and longer MilDot scopes, all have QD rings.

I have a 1-8x Primary Arms and for the cash I think it is excellent - I also have a Strike Eagle and I much prefer the PA in every way

The PA reticle is very simple and easy to use and is my favourite out of a bunch of scopes

The "go to" optics depends on what one is "going to" do.
You mentioned 300 yard AND running & gunning.
Are you more concerned with printing the tiniest groups at 300, or
are you more excited if you get faster shot timer results at IPSC targets?

If you're really going to hunt coyotes, that should be your primary concern since you're taking lives with it. Accuracy comes first, think about something 2.5-10 at least, you want to do high confidence first shot at 300 yards at a coyote heart size accuracy while excited. Really if that's your application, you need a varmint setup.

I would love to see some pics and description of use.

Im leaning towards a Vortex Strike Eagle for me. Im not to sure about the 20-200 cross hair notch though lmao.

It has a BDC but who knows how useful it will be... This will go on my tavor for range fun and yote smacking.

Ive been reviewing the options and there are so many. So lets see what you guys have and what their main use is !

I use a Leupold Mark AR Mod 1 3-9x40 with the firedot reticle on my Tavor for this very purpose. I consider it a 200 yard max rifle/scope combination when it comes to ethically taking yotes. For locations where there is a possibility of shots longer than this my Tavor stays home. This ain't no precision rig but if you can call them in close enough it is quite capable and a lot of fun.

Had a 3X magnifier behind an EOTech 512 on my Tavor 21. The cocking hand would hit the base of the EOTech and wreck my hand. Then I moved them back to save my hand but my face would smash the 3X. So I replaced them with a Strike Eagle. Hand smashed the illumination knob on cocking. So I replaced that with a Spitfire 3X. Was happy with that.
