What is your 'Holy Grail' Rifle/Cartridge?

Holy Grail.

As in sought after for years but never found?

I always thought the 280 Remington looked good on paper and last year a buddy gave me one; a custom job with a Czech Brno 98 action, new barrel, good synthetic stock, jeweled bolt, made in Finland (probably Sako) trigger and slick hinged floor plate. I couldn't be happier.

Weatherby Classicmark in 257/270/7mm weatherby mag. I passed up on one because I was extremely short on funds. When I finally scraped together the cash, it had sold a few weeks prior. That or a pristine Browning Medallion, Olympian, Safari grade in .308 Norma magnum from the early 60's.

Mine has been my Sako m75ss 300WM that I bought new back in 1997. Built a 338-06AI off a Sako m75 Greywolf rifle back in 2008, so its up there as well, but doesn't get used as much like my 300WM. Not a chance in Hell that I would sell it thou.

The Holy Grail in my case keeps changing. I like my Win M-70's, and I have decided I should have one in 300 HH, Super Grade if I can a) find one and b) afford it. My hope is they will offer the 300 HH chambering. If not I will have to see what I can find from years ago.

The ones I am looking for cannot legitimately be considered "Holy Grail" guns... they are all readily obtainable with a little patience, they are all no longer in production, but I don't feel that is enough to label them as a Holy Grail... true "rarity" or unattainability is the primary contributing factor for "grail" status... as it applies to an individual, this could be due to limited production or in some cases cost ($$$). Also, as every "true" gun nut knows... they cease to be a Holy Grail as soon as we get them in our safe... then there is another one shimmering above the horizon. JMO.

My m96 is all i need, or a kimber m96 sporter with a walnut stock would be awesome, as long as it shot sub moa

Once Ralf Martini is finished with my custom lightweight Mauser 98 sporter in 7x57, it will be my holy grail hunting rifle. Once Peter Sedman is finished with my Schulz & Larsen M58 in 6.5x55 it will be my holy grail target rifle -- and it may re-define opinion on European Beechwood. I just wish I didn't have to sell a kidney to make those two what I want. Ah... such is life. Now aside from that, I don't want another holy grail rifle, I am quite happy with my proven Tikka T3's, non-refurished SKS's, and my trusty Swiss Service revolver that I can carry in the field.

I just picked up a tired old 1903 Mannlicher in 6.5X54- it has been around the bend, but many consider it the holy Grail of sporting guns, for sure!
It will be cool to bring it back into operating shape and shoot some deer with it this fall, or maybe even a bear this spring.
