What is your M14s load?

I use Varget and am looking at using 168 Sierra HPBT. Any suggestions? I don't think the M-14 would be fond of max loads, so I was thinking of plagiarizing the loads of others .

45gr Varget works well for me.

for accuracy 168 Hornady BTHP 3031 39grains seemed to produce 3/4" at 100 yards shooting prone off a bipod with leupold scope

for volume shooting 150 Hornady FMJ 3031

WLR primers, 43grs WC-735 and 147 FMJBT. Gives 2725 fps or so on warm summer days.

Here is my data.

The 1:12 twist bbl is a norinco
The 1:10 is a Douglas
Both are 22 inches

IMR 4895 was the MILSPEC propellant and is always a good benchmark for comparison.The 39gr IMR 3031 was an early match load with the 168gr bullet and still gives excellent results.IMR 4064,W748,and BLC-2 should also be considered.Varget is an excellent powder,but there is some discussion about the burning rate/port pressure that it develops in a gas gun.I've stopped using it in Garands/M14 for this reason,but do use it in my bolt guns.My own experience has lead me to standardize on IMR 4064 and 4895 in Garands/M14,but I do use IMR 3031 in a couple of accuracy loads as well.

I exclusivly use IMR 3031 in all my rifle loads but since they arent being very nice at shipping 8lb container anymore I will be switching to something by alliant.

Loaded on my Dillon 650:

-42.5 grains of H4895
-155gr Sierra HPBTM Palma
-CCI Large Rifle Primer
-Winchester Brass

-Primer pockets reamed 5 though deep (what a major PAIN IN THE A**)
-Full length small base resize
-Trim brass to 2.010
-Chamfer inside and ouside of case mouth (also a pain in the a**)
-seat to 2.800 COL
-Crimp with Dillon die
-Hand check each round for primer height and orientation

Brobee's got it right. H4895 works fantastic, and will give less variation than the standby of IMR 4895.

Anywhere from 40 to 42.5 grains should work with both the 155s and 168s - as always work 'em up.

I'm running H4895 ... 43.5 gr under my 150gr softpoint was the money. I forget what the OAL was.
