IMR 4895 was the MILSPEC propellant and is always a good benchmark for comparison. The 39gr IMR 3031 was an early match load with the 168gr bullet and still gives excellent results.IMR 4064,W748,and BLC-2 should also be considered.Varget is an excellent powder, but there is some discussion about the burning rate/port pressure that it develops in a gas gun.I've stopped using it in Garands/M14 for this reason, but do use it in my bolt guns.My own experience has lead me to standardize on IMR 4064 and 4895 in Garands/M14,but I do use IMR 3031 in a couple of accuracy loads as well.
