What is your most recent rifle purchase?

I bought a VXIII 4.5-14 B&C last weekend.

I'm down to a 257Roberts, 270Win, 308 and a 30/06. I can see the '06 becoming a 35Whelen in the not for a while future. That would make a nicely rounded bunch.

I am almost done buying the 308 family...... As well as the aught six family... Many safe casualties here as well.....

It's almost liberating in a weird way to have only 3 or 4 BG rifles. Sold off over $4K worth stuff in last 4 months. Did a large lump payment on the mortgage in Dec 2015. Paid that selling stuff I really didn't need.

To say this rifle was sporterized is a bit of a understatement, "heavily sporterized" might be better!
The stock was originally a military stock,if you look at the nose cap you can see where the cleaning rod hole was plugged!
The barrel was obviously replaced with a '96 or similar, seeing how it is stepped ad in 6.5X55 instead of 5X57 or 8mm.
The stock has also had a piece installed just ahead o the front sling swivel, the Williams installed, and the bolt handle modified.
I have several plans for it, either a Timney or a duouble set trigger, if the double set trigger is used I will install a M70 style safety.
If the Timney trigger is chosen it will have the side safety and will install a Santa Barbara tail piece that will clean the lines up.
Maybe a hinged floor plate as well.:)

Nice rifle, Cat!

If you'll allow me to toss in my two bits:

If you don't plan on scoping your rifle, then you really don't need to change the safety.

I'd leave the safety as it is and just install a Timney Sportsman with out the safety.

*Rat scurries quickly away from the Cat*

HAHA!!
personally I find the factory safeties to be abnormally tough to engage and the whole arse end if a standard Mauser bolt as uhly as a mangy coyote!
I really like the smooth lines of the Santa Barbara tail piece however .
BTW , why in the World would a person want to scope a rifle with a great peep sight already on it?!Laugh2

Ah, I see.

Second suggestion: Win 70 safety and Timney Sportsman trigger without the safety.:d

BTW, I wouldn't drill & tap an M98 anyways, especially if it already had peep sights.

It must have a nice, long sight radius, eh?

Its coming up to that for me too, sometimes health issues dictate...

site radius is about 25", not really long, but more than enough for a quick handling hunting carbine:)
Always liked Mausers , they are a bit heavier than some actions and maybe not as fast, but I still like them!

Thanks! Forgot to mention that the rings are Quick Detach Leupold so you can get back to irons quickly if needed...
