What is your SKS to you ?

When the news came out that CTC wasn’t going to be stocking them anymore I went and got one from our local gun shop.
It’s a fun rifle but it’s been difficult finding non-corrosive ammo in the last few weeks.

I have a bunch too.
I use them to bribe people into getting their PAL and then I give them a free SKS (seriously)

Spoken like someone who never learned how to use iron sights properly. lol
In all seriousness the amount of times Ive seen guys struggling to shoot their ar well with all the gizmos and gadgets on it. Then I just start slapping the gongs with the stock sks. Makes me chuckle, always gets the new shooters I bring out questioning what is important. lol. 18" plate at 300 yard with an sks all day long.

They have some nice rifles, I bought a few sks and Mosins from them! Do they still include slings and ammo pouch?
To each his own for sure, $200. And increasing in value, is yours? In experienced hands it is accurate enough, not a sniper rifle for sure! Lots of cool history, inexpensive trigger time! So, depends on what you are looking for and how thick your wallet is! Again, for $200. How bad a choice can it be, you will always get your money back unless you abused or bubba'd it!

I got rid of 10 of them over the years due to space restrictions and downsizing, but kept 1 all-matching, non-refurbished 2008 IZH import ('54 Tula, weimajack's personal SKS) and then bought another all-matching lamimate stock "supergrade" black bayo mild refurb ('52 Tula) as my primary shooter. They are by far and away superior to any semi-auto rifle for under $1000. I heard a rumour that the end of the bulk imports is finally near (though the nice ones have been gone for several years).. and judging by the SKS exodus on EE lately, it may actually be true.

Yeah 3-4 MOA is super impressive
the SKS is okay for what it is, a cheep 70 year old rifle. I personally would rather have a bolt action in 7.62x39 like a cz527, easy to clean, fantastic trigger, more accurate, can still shoot surplus, has iron sights, beautiful wood, and options for mounting a scope. Maybe my option in the poll should be "found greener pastures with better rifles", sorry for offending you.

No offence taken at all! My sks is about as accurate as a 2k tavor or a 1k VZ.
You are comparing mass produced fire arms with a bolt action rifle for sporting. Bolt actions are super easy to clean, always have a better trigger and likely have better irons and wood as it is made for civilians not someone they expect to die shortly after handed the rifle! lol
You found you like bolt actions more then semi's no surprise. Im in the same boat. Just sold my tavor, my sks is my ONLY semi automatic. All bolt guns.
Mind you I dont shoot surplus crap loads out of my bolt guns to obtain 2-3 moa.

Same here. Sold my last Kriss Vector several months back. 2 SKS's now fill my semi-auto void, the rest are a mix of bolt guns, a single shot and a pump action shotgun. Pistols are another story, and I prefer those in an antique flavour!
The SKS is the same as, or close to, the real-world out-of-the-box accuracy of 90+% of the semi-autos out there, at least from my experience. The SKS has the advantage of being super durable, bone-stock reliable and fairly light given the bayonet attachment and buttstock cleaning kit. Not all SKS's are the same, but those with tight fitting stocks and very good bores deliver very decent accuracy. I also don't shoot surplus ammo anymore, and have opted for commercial Barnaul FMJ and Prvi SP for field work.

2nd long gun, after a 22. It gave me a chance to fire
a real fun gun with a great round. Also there is some historical
frames of reference for both the round and the rifle.
As time has gone by I have bot others and have not taken this out to the
range as much as I would have liked past 2 years, still it is a
great rife, looks good with original furniture and is reasonably accurate
concidering my old man eyes... I even bot a spare just in case.
