Try to reload the 7.62X54Russian for my Polish M44.

some questions about the bullet, in my earlier post, someone give me suggestion that: I need 0.311 bullet(which is the same bullet use in .303 British) for the Mosin.

But I do some research that Polish M44 barrel diameter is .308 not .311.

So which bullet is good for this gun? .308 or .311??

thanks a lot!!!

Apologies for the stupid question (as I am very new to reloading):

Bullet Barn sells a .313 "cast" bullet in 180gr and 200gr. I have read if your Nagant is say .310 you can use a .311 "cast" bullet (that being .001 bigger). So if your Nagant is .311, is .002 "too much?"

Just curious.

I also found a handy video on how to slug a rifle barrel for those that don't know:

Thanks!

My experience with oversized cast bullets in various chamberings is that I haven't noticed any significant difference in accuracy between bullets oversized 0.001 and 0.002 inch. Others have reported differences in accuracy. Depends on the gun, I figure. Worth experimenting to see which diameter is more accurate in your gun.

You should also be aware that Bullet Barn will custom size the bullets if you ask them - this will cost you a bit more money, but you will have bullets sized at the diameter you want.

wenzou, just try the 308". It can't hurt. If it shoots good then lucky you as there are many different 308 bullets to choose from. Just load light and work up.

If you just want to shoot at the range, I suggest cast bullets and something like trail boss or unique owder. Cheap and often very accurate with the right combo.

Alternately, buy a case of 7.62x39, pull the bullets and use the bullets and powder to load into the x54 case, round by round. Also very cheap.

Actually, I try the .308 give me pretty good accuracy. but .312 not as good as .308 in my Polish M44

polish M44 should be .312, but if you are unsure it wont hurt to slug the bore.

I load my x54 with speer 180grn soft points .311 or .312 I forget what they printed on the box

I use hornady 174grn RN .312 for my 303 reloading.
