What kind of 1911 grip safety is this?.

I was gonna send NAA a PM on this but figured there are more than a few 1911 SME's on here. Can someone identify this grip safety?...is it OEM?. The pistol is a new to me Series 80 Govt. Model. I have a pile of parts to do a build but am considering returning it to OEM spec. instead and bluing the polished slide. Any help would be appreciated. Who does a nice bluing job if I go the OEM route?. I have since replaced the grip screws with slotted one and the mag release with an OEM unit. Which sights did these come with and I assume there was a non ambi. safety?.

It is horribly uncomfortable too boot. The trigger is tragic as well. The gun itself is super nice and was a good price from a friend. It was meant to be a donor gun to go to Springfield Custom shop.
 
My guess is it's not original Colt. Likely, just a "drop in" to work with the skeletonized hammer. As for the maker...... :confused:

BTW, I'm not much of a SME on Series 80's Colts.... The only one's I have any use for are the Deltas.

that looks like a dlask trigger.... and the grip safety looks similar to one of the duckbill colt ones.... if it is rubber coated at all i would hazard a guess that it is pachmyer.
 
That does look like Dlask trigger, and I'm pretty sure that it is a Colt duckbill grip safety - I'd have to see it from above to know if it was Colt or Pachmayr (who made rubber ones and metal ones). Interesting gun - looks like a late '80's IPSC gun
 
the original grip safety it is not. It should be the 1911a1 style, the original safety is a slim one sided affair, the original rear sight was in the dovetail and did not mount over the rear of the slide. nthe orogonal grips were screwed on and had the colt medalion, the original mainspring housing was arched. Also the original hammer was the colt spur style not comander or skeleton. At least that was the way my series 80 looked before it was turned into "an 80's style ipsc gun"
 
Yes, King's (they made several variants), or possibly late 80s/early 90s Colt factory. They offered something like that on one of their early attempts at an out-of-the-box 5" IPSC pistol, as I recall. Colt may have been buying them from King's.

If you're actually binning it, like, in the bin, I'll gladly pay postage for it. Had been looking for one to experiment with, a while back.
