What kind of 9mm ammo do you use?

I shoot a lot of 9mm, and I'm curious about what kind of 9mm cartridges people are using. What have you been able to get your hands on? What works well for you? What sucks?

Over the past year, I've started keeping a sample of each different types of ammo I've used. Here's what I've got for 9mm so far. The one I've used by far the most of over the past year is the first one, the Remington 115gr. MC. I find this to be a good all-round cartridge for taget practice. I used a bunch of Remington HP for our range's Halloween pumpkin shoot last year. The first line of pumpkins was at 25m and I was able to easily hit them with this ammo and a Glock 17. Sawed some nice loonie sized holes through the pumpkins if you hit them on the top. Blew out the backs of the pumpkins if you hit them in the middle (but still nothing like the results the boys with the tactical shotguns were getting! Gotta get one for next Halloween).

The Fiocchi, and particularly the Fiocchi hollow-points, I found to be terrible ammo. Not accurate.

What do others use?

Left to right in both pictures:

Remington UMC, 115 gr., MC ("Metal Case")
Remington UMC, 115 gr., HP

Winchester, 115 gr., FMJ
WinClean, 124 gr., BEB (no clue what that means)

American Eagle, 115 gr., FMJ

Speer Lawman, 147 gr., FMJ

Fiocchi, 123 gr., FMJ
Fiocchi, 115 gr., JHP

I only shoot factory 147 grain Winchester. It's either Black Talon or it's replacement, the XST. Both are accurate for me 25 to 75 yards on a 2foot by 4foot target. I've also used them at 100 yards and I tagged that surface on a pretty high percentage of shots.

I shoot it out of a short barrel in a S&W issue pistol. I fede them in my Glock and they were accurate there as weel.

Last season I started using Combat Masters ammo. Used both the 124 and 147gr and they were both great.

Before this stuff I had used Winchester an American Eagle.

I don't plan on using anything but Combat Masters, because I've had no problems with the ammo at all.....it's great ammo.

Maybe we're overthinking this....
Use what functions and is 'acceptably' accurate..
More importantly, use what you can find to purchase!;)
My local supplies can be 'spotty'...sometimes the shelves are awash in product and other times the cobwebs are filled with morose dust bunnies...
I tend to stock up with proven performers, when they're available.
I have heard from more than one source that the price of factory ammo and individual components is going up, up, up...
My advise is buy as much now as you can afford...it doesn't go bad..and there's always a 'buddie' who needs you to front him some rounds 'cause he didn't do likewise!

BEB = Brass Encased Based

Imagine a bullet that is made backwards (lead is poured in the top instead of the bottom). You can see the opening at the nose of the bullet, the base will be completely sealed.

I use what is the cheapest ammo I can get. Right now it is Fiochi 115gr, but my preferance is 124gr. I just picked up some frangiable from Oma bullets to try out and am presently loading 124gr cast for the outdoor range and will be getting 124gr FMJ to load for indoor.

JHP I use Remington generally, a bit dirty but reliable. I have some Hydra-shoks also, shot some other brands of JHP. MY SIG loves them all.

I've simply been using hwatever I can get my mitts on. I do have a small preference for American Eagle 147gr but I think that's because I like the red boxes. Lately been using a lot of Winchester White Box. Like was said before, use what is reliable and available

Ahh... so that's what that is. I was doing this --> when looking at that on the box. (Of course I never stop to read the fine print  ).

Thanks for the responses. I like trying out different types of ammo, but the selection seems to be pretty hit and miss in the shops here in Vancouver - other than a couple of brands that are always around in one form or another (the standard stuff from Remington, Winchester, and American Eagle). It seems like they always have all this really ass-kicking stuff in the American gun magazines: not just the +P and +P+ stuff (and I know that some of that is "LE only", even down there), but also 9mm in brands like CorBon, Hornady, CCI, Black Hills, Extreme Shock, Wolf, etc. I see these brands in Canada sometimes, but never in 9mm. Do the shops in other provinces bring any of this ammo in? Somebody mentioned Federal Hydra Shok... where did you find that? Where can I get some? :D

Where are some good places in canada to order online? I see that Wolverine advertises this:

I was thinking I should order a case of that, just to try something different. Shipping is probably pretty brutal on a case of bullets though  . at least it's not a box of .45 Auto!

I shoot only Combat masters ammo. It is the best I have used. Very consistant quality. Good price to buy in Bulk!
I have shot everything Winchester makes for 9mm, plus federal (AE), and other stuff. The owner of Combat mAsters is a former world class PPC shooter, and he knows how to make accurate ammo.

That's not how bullets are made. Moulten lead is not poured into anything. A piece of lead wire is swaged into a copper or brass cup. The heat generated by the high pressure is what forms the bullets.

I shoot mostly reloads as well but have shot a lot of Winchester white box as well. Looks like I'll be shooting the white box again soon as I just bought 14 boxes for $100 here locally from a guy that sold his Beretta 92!
