what kind of accuracy are you guys getting from your M14?

Sorry, what exactly is barrel indexing? Is that what Canam is doing now that they have had complaints of exploding barrels? Im leaning extremely heavily towards an m305 shorty as my next purchase, hopefully i can buy it before hungry's clinic near kamloops

Believe they're referring to the front sight being slighty canted - probably to the left. Or possibly any of the other assemblies on the barrel, such as the gas tube. Basically it has been over torqued (or possibly under), and is not correctly aligned with the action.

Took my new canam shorty and some 1980 IVI, after the clinic on saturday (thanks Doc) to the range on sunday.
First 5rds. to see if the barrel would fly off.
Next 5rds. off the bench to get the sights zerod at 100m
Then10rds. fire for effect on 50m pistol target at 100m
All 10rds. in the black with most in the center:D
The 200m gong did't stand a chance off the bench and even
took a beating standing off hand (when my 50year old eyes could see it)

Barney, we should just hold the clinic at my place near 100 mile. Furnished room for you to crash out. Range or crown land easily aquired. Lots of room for at least 20 guys. Lots of room for tents, campers n RV's. Shop on hand already set up for the M14 ....
Could be an epic M14 clinic weekend..... If yer in, PM me
I'm very central when it comes to Kamloops, kelowna, prince george, quesnel, ect ect.

This if from my M14, this rifle was optimized at one of Hungry's clinics, and does have aftermarket parts, but it shows you what to expect with with a Norc receiver.

Same gun, different load....

Was that shot with irons or a scope?

Either way is it's still pretty good, but a scope helps alot.

I would say the first group is a better representation of what the gun can do with the flyers being caused by the shooter.

Sorry for the omission, that was a scoped M14

My first time out with my new to me Polytech m305 I shot a 2" group of 6 rounds with cheap PRVI 147gr FMJ's. (I shot two seperate 3 shot groups because the 5 round mag wasn't feeding properly with more than 3). I was pretty impressed for box stock.

Mags have a rivit in the spine?

It was the shorty 5/5 mag (only one I got with the rifle, really need to find some 5/20s lol). I took the base plate off, and the spring was a little bound up. Also left some rounds in it overnight, seems better now.

I heard thru the vine that 5/20's would be in stock soon at select dealers. Not sure if they are the pinned/rivetted ones or the ones with long follower tabs.

T.E.C (site sponsor) sells 5/20 which have welded base plate, i had problems with all my mags (4) that had rivets in the spine, the 2 from T.E.C work great and never had any issues with them.

They sell for $30 when in stock.

You know PRVI ammo gets such hate, but I find it shoots well out of m305's

I certainly have no complaints with it. Considering the barrel is slightly out of index (I find the front sight angle pretty distracting), gas system is a bit loose, and all the little tweaks that can be done still, I'm quite happy. I've never had any issues with PRVI as far as reliability or accuracy (I've shot a few boxes of 7.62x39 as well), I just meant cheap as it was monetarily cheap lol.

If your flash hider isn't welded on, you can sort out that front sight and loose gas system in minutes. It may just be your flash hider, not the barrel. You can also push the metal forward on the gas system to tighten it up, although on mine all I had to do was switch the gas / barrel band ring around and it's double thumb tight at 6 o'clock.
