What kind of accuracy do you get with your M14?

1.5 to 2 MOA. I bought it used. Stock early 2000s M14S with the "chu" wood, but swapped the metal flip up butt plate for a rubber pad and chopped the useless flash hider off. Added a UTG 3-point see-through scope mount topped with a Leupold Vari-x Compact 2-7x28mm. I have not had the chance to take game yet... but maybe later this year.

I can hit a 12" gong at 225 yards almost every time. (no scope, standing stance)

I'm guessing with the right load and decent glass it will be good for 1 moa. I can't say for sure yet as my near vision sucks. The rear sight looks more like a shadow of a dougnut then an aperture. It was a good day, very close to the secret sauce for my Win Mag, just a wee bit too spicy. I also confirmed the 175 SMK is going to be hard to beat in the M-305, heres hoping the heavy spring from Hungry will save it from beating it self to death.

Get yourself a grooved Sadlak piston if your running 175's. Won't beat the gun up so much.

Typically right around 100mm groups at 100m, which is 3.5 MOA. I've done nothing to it beyond fixing the small factory defects it had.
The M14 is not an accurate rifle design. The AMTU did a ton of research to make the M14 tolerable as a match and sniper rifle, and basically concluded that if you throw every resource in the book at it, you should reliably get close to 2 MOA.

We have consistent 1" groups with our Blackfeather "RS" using 1 stock Norinco rifle from 2010 and 1 Polytech from 2009. Final production stock is off to anodizing this week and then it will be evaluated and range tested.
+1 12" gong, 300 yards, national match iron sights, Norinco copper-washed ammo, from the bench. Lots of little tweaks done to the rifle, more to come.

Mine shoots pretty good right out of the box. Managed a couple of groups under an inch. My m14 doesn't seem to have much "slop" as described by some other owners. I took a nice bull moose with it last September. Looking forward to taking a bear with it in another couple of months.
I find it can vary wildy depending on the ammo used. I've shot (benchrested) betwen 0.5 MOA to 6 MOA with the same gun using different ammo. the kicker was that the bullets were all approximately the same weight too, all 147 or 150s. I don't know why the M14 is so picky about ammo.
it's not- it's just that different ammo is made to different specs and esp different countries- just ask the guys that have shot lake city or radway green compared to that russian/chinese/south american /european crap- and all those bullets weigh the same too-
that is why i preach LOAD DEVELOPMENT every chance i get-

Every rifle I have owned shoots different ammo to a different spot and/or varying group size. It's the nature of it. A barrel is going to vibrate a certain way. The load effects the harmonics, be it bullet weight/design, powder charge, or seating depth. Get it just right and you get great groups, wrong and it's time to get out the puller. That's why to ask what is the most accurate ammo to shoot in my rifle is a question that can only be answered one way, the ammo it likes.
One of my all time favorite questions is what is the best way to improve the accuracy of my rifle. The first answer should always be work up a hand load it likes.
Now time to go put the finishing touch on my 208 A-Max/Retumbo load for the WM, It's allllmost there!

What kind of accuracy do you get with those rifles in the standard stocks?
First of all we can all tell from that pic that it isn't no one inch group and also from a stock norinco with a trigger job, or-rod guide and a USGI stock. I can constantly hit a 3 inch bull's eye at 200 meters at Poco range when using a 1 to 4 power hi-lux optic.
As for this rifle being so picky with ammo what do you except from a design almost 70 years old? That is why they always issued this rifle with range books so you could keep record of what ammo preformed best for you. This is due to the gas piston design. When the bullet properly matched to the lands with little hop from the chamber to the barrel plus having the right bullet wieght with rifle twist then having a consitant presure from the burning of the powder in the cartridge will greatly enhance the repeatability of this rifle platform. Then as we all know about repeatability being the father to accuracy.
