Looking to complete my restricteds first run of shopping, i was looking at a Daniel Defense MK 18 10.3 inch barrel, what kind of accuracy and velocity, you get from it, is it more of novelty or it will perform... JP.

I was going to order that one but ordered the DDM4V7 as I figure a 16" tube would be a bit better. Others report 1-2 MOA with 16" barrel on a DD. I guess MK18 would be similar/slightly less. I don't think prospective purchasers of that type of SBR would be disappointed.

The mk18 will provide any practical accuracy you would need out to 300 yards no problem, then velocity starts to come into play with winds etc. nice rifle and you cannot go wrong at that length. Perfect for CQB.

I think the DD Mk18 is a performer. I have a Mk 18 and a DDM4V5, both have a Vortex Strikefire on them. I have never shot groups with them to see how they group at 100m. I zeroed the Strikefires at 25m on 2 inch dots. I can hit the steel gongs at 100 and 200m with both(not every time with either) so I don't really see any difference. The range I belong to only goes to 300m and most of my shooting is shorter range 3 gun type shooting using IPSC or IDPA targets where I more concerned with hits on paper than group size. At 100/200m the red dot nearly covers or covers the gong so I attribute misses to me and not the rifle. With some form of more precise optics with an actual reticle, I would assume the V5 would out shoot the Mk18, especially at the longer ranges.

What type of shooting will you be doing, at what range? If you are thinking of doing any shooting in the U.S. you may want to consider a longer barrelled rifle. This was what forced me into buying the V5, not that I am complaining.

My membership at my main club ( CRAFM) only have a 50 yards long guns range, so it should be irrelevant, reviews are excellents and a few guys just confimed the quality of the DD MK 18... So i just layaway one in FDE from Wanstalls, for my other range LRN the maximum range is 200 yards... I went short and very happy i did... Cheers. JP.

Here a generic picture of excatly the one i layaway... JP.

Looks just like mine did. What kind of sights or optics are you planning to put on it. That was my biggest frustration when I got mine. I didn't think ahead about what I wanted on it. Then I got the rifle and couldn't find any of the optics or sights I wanted. Even the Magpul MBUS were hard to find, it seemed one place would have a front sight in FDE and a rear in black. I couldn't find a set of sights in my price range. Optics were just as bad. I settled on the Strikefire and actually like it so got a second one. The rifle sat in the safe for quite awhile before I got test it out.

I will be keeping the Strikefire on the Mk18, but as fund become available I will be upgrading the optics on the V5.

I have used a variety of mags, 5/30 and 10 rd pistol mags. I had a few problems with one brand of LAR mags in the V5 (never tried them in the Mk18). The C-Products LAR mags (from Wanstalls) have worked well. Can't load a full mag on a closed bolt though.

The DD Mk18 Mod1 is the civvie street version of the CQBR/Mk18 of JSOC issue. It is also used in several variations by numerous NATO SF teams working with JSOC.

I have a DD Mk18 Mod1 that I have about 1000rds through right now. So far I have had no issues with the rifle.

The rifle is wel balanced and compact. OEM has the rifle come in with a MOE stock, but I replaced this with a SOPMOD stock ASAP to give me the sighting ergoes I am familiar with. I also added a VTac VFG and an ADM Mod11 sight mount for the Aimpoint T1. I use a Pig sling with QD that pops right into the mount immediately below the buffer tube.

This setup might weigh 7-7.5lbs.

When working the long shot with the issued rifle I was able to tag a static target at 500m using a T1. In the intended ranges for this type of rifle accuracy is usually superior to the operator. I figure that I'm getting about 1.5-2.0 MOA from the DD Mk18 Mod1. In timed headshots at 50m I'm usually scoring about 60% in a two second window from low ready. At 20m, same timings I'm making 95% or so. At 10m with a one second window I'm scoring 99-100% from low ready. All shots are controlled pairs. So clearly the rifle is comfortable, fast to bear, combat accurate and has a better than acceptable recoil impulse.

I recommend keeping the rifle wet, I'll use whatever CLP I can get, but some use lithium grease, froglube etc. The only time it choked was sixty rounds into a session where I neglected to do a weapons check prior to lighting it up.

I'm planning to throw a irlam on it sometime to support a nv monocular in the future. The irlam will add about 0.75lbs.

On such a compact platform you have to plan very carefully where and what accessories you put on it to avoid screwing up the weight and balance of the rifle.

Hope this helps...

I have a bunch of optics i can put on it, i may go red dot, have a Delta point and a Eotech or it is hard no to go with a Hilux CMR, those are good, maybe a regular Zeiss 3X9, will have to try stuff... JP.

In the process of learning about restricteds, will make errors on what to get but this is normal, by getting some experienced members ideas, can save some useless transactions but at the end ballistics stay ballistics and the fun continue... JP.

The only thing missing now is the RPAL, i find that it is very long to get, i was told that it could take another 6 weeks... Gosh. JP.

the trigger on these are gross and heavy after optic a new trigger should be the next step

Could be done first to, what is the best drop in trigger ass'y you can get for them, dont need a RPAL to order it, i could take care of it now... JP.

My DD M4V5 has a gritty trigger. My buddy bought one of the newer model M4V5 and his trigger was actually pretty smooth but still your typical heavy AR trigger. I'd definitely recommend getting a Gieselle SSA or SSA-E. :)
