What kind of ammo do you guys use for your semi autos? Updated with my results.

As others have said CCI is a solid brand for .22. I buy CCI and CCI only nowadays for my ruger 10/22. A few good variations of CCI ammo to choose from but all shoot good for me.

I've only ever shot marlin semi's, but every variation of them and they all performed very well with CCI standard velocity and sk standard plus. Just enough oomph to cycle the action reliably and consistently accurate.

All of my 22's shoot good with cci mini mags (either hp or rn), cci blazer, and cci subsonic, and sk standard +. While federal 525 is cheap it doesnt group into a small hole at all. For just tossing lead down range federal 525 is the one to use lol.

+1 for the MiniMags, every 22 I own likes them. Lately I have been buying the 1600 round bulk ammo can at CT.

I WAS using Winchester Dynapoints up until now, as all my semiautos seemed to like it.

However - the latest batch I bought (2 boxes @ 500 rounds per) has a failure rate of 1 in 3. The failed rounds have no priming compound at all, and about half of them have no powder in them either. There is also a large variation in rim thickness - probably because there's nothing in there. I'm going to try to contact Winchester about this, but I don't know if they'll offer to help, and it won't help anyone else who buys it.

Ok I picked up some ammo so we'll see how it goes.

CCI Quiet-22 710FPS (to see if subsonic will work)
CCI 40gr copper-plated round nose
Federal 525 Value Pack
AE High Velocity 40gr
ELEY target
Federal Premium Target
Lapua made in germany Standard Plus
Remington 22 Golden bullet HP
Winchester Super X plated HP

From my research since posting this seems that the ruger will eat almost anything so hopefully there is a noticeable difference in some of these, especially since the price difference is significant. Im probably not good enough to notice a big difference in accuracy using only 50 rounds though.

I also happened to acquire another ruger while I was ammo shopping, not sure im im going to keep it but they do look cool together. And I may be tempted to try Akimbo SR22s ;)

Now I just have to find the time to get out and shoot them.

I've tried them all in my modified 10/22. CCI Stingers are the best performing in my firearm.
Yes they are more money but to me it's worth it.

If I'm in the back yard shooting annoying crows I use CCI subsonics. They are as quiet as an air gun but don't always cycle perfectly in the 10/22's semi action.

My SR22 (from Reliable) likes Win 555. Tried CCI, FED, REM, Eley.

Find the factory trigger was so heavy it threw all my shots off. Being great since replacing it with Volquarten drop in trigger. Expensive upgrade but well worth it, unloading BC 25 rnd mags are so fun.

My SR22 eats anything, although subsonic gives me an increased FTE count. I shoot a lot of Blazers ( around $25/500 in Regina) and CCI stingers. I just picked up some Federal for a good price, and some Fiocci which I've never tried before

CCI Blazers in the 500 pack have run all my .22s reliably. They also have CCI Blazers in a 525 pack which I haven't tried. The 500 pack are in packs of 50. I have found loose bulk packs seem to have some rounds with loose bullets, which causes jams in semi autos. That's my experience. The loose bulk packs work fine in my .22 bolt gun even if the bullets are "loose" meaning you can turn them.

So I thought id post back some results on all that ammo I tested. I listed it from most accurate to least. I was also shooting it from a brand new rifle so once the rifle is broken in I might try them all again incase that makes a difference.

I was shooting at 50 yards, if the groupings don't seem good its probably my shooting but I used the same setup and went through each type multiple times to make sure I wasn't improving my shot and skewing the results.

Also im not 100% on the terminology so if im incorrect feel free to fix it. FTF=Fail to feed, FTE=fail to eject?

-CCI "AR Tactical" 40gr copper-plated round nose - 250 rounds- No FTF, FTE or bad primers, was able to consistently get 1" or smaller groups. I found this to be by far the best and will probably buy more even though its a little higher priced.

-Federal 525 Value Pack 36gr - 500 rounds - No FTF, FTE or bad primers, was able to get 1.5"-3" groups. It was consistent but not as good as the CCI AR Tactical.

-AE High Velocity 40gr - 100 rounds - No FTF, FTE or bad primers, was able to get 1.5"-3" groups. It seemed the same for accuracy as the Federal but hit a little lower, im thinking because of the difference between the 36gr and 40gr?

-Remington 22 Golden bullet HP - 100 rounds - No FTF, FTE but I did have a few bad primers, about 2-3% and I tried them twice. Wasn't great, 3"-3.5" groups with the odd random one that was way off

-Winchester Super X plated HP - 100 rounds - 2 FTF, 1 FTE and 5 bad primers. These ones seemed pretty bad, grouping was 3"-4" with quite a few random flyers. I actually dumped the powder on the ones that didn't got off and found it was clumped together, almost like it got wet or something. Im actually hesitant to use the other 200 rounds I have now.

-CCI Quiet-22 710FPS (to see if subsonic will work) These caused a FTE almost every other round as I expected. Maybe once the spring is worn and the bolt is a bit smoother they will work better. I also noticed they seemed to hit quite a bit lower then the other ammo. I didn't really shoot enough of them to get an idea of the accuracy.

I didn't get to test these ones so if I do and they are significantly good or bad ill update the post.
-ELEY target
-Federal Premium Target
-Lapua made in germany Standard Plus

So far my 597 takes everything I feed it without complaint, but it definitely likes Winchester over Federal. Much, much tighter groups with the Winchester.

I've got a great big bag with a pack of every flavor of .22 I could find locally, just waiting for the next range trip. We'll see if anything stands out, then.

I only have two semi-autos...a Mossberg 715t and a GSG 1911.
Have found that Blazers are nearly foolproof (Winchester and Remington the worst).
Typical day last Sat. Spent the afternoon at the range with a brick of Blazers.
300 through the Mossberg without one single issue.
200 through the GSG with one failure due to a bad round...nice heavy firing pin strike but no fire.
But one out of 500 (and the Mossberg is known to be prone to misfires) ain't bad.

I have run quite a lot of different stuff through my 10/22. Everything seems to run perfectly out of the stock rotary mag, but the 25 round butler creek ones are a bit fussier with some of the stepped, hollow point rounds

Gophers get Remington Yellow Jackets, while targets usually get perforated with the Federal Champions, dynapoints, whatever is on sale :) . There is a big difference in velocity and POI between the yellow jackets and all the "standard" rounds.

Next I will try some Blazer and CCI minimags. Always steered away from the Blazer as I thought it was cheapy garbage ammo......I stand corrected on that - thanks guys!

The Blazers come in both 525 and 500 round boxes. In case of the 500's the rounds are in 50 round boxes the 525's are bulk. The rounds are subtlety different as the bullets are coloured differently and have different markings. The boxes are marked as if they are packed at the same facility in Lewiston ID. I've never compared them head to head. Neither work well in my CMMG magazines as they prefer the shorter OAL Federal HP's. I'd be interested in knowing more if others have better knowledge of the Blazer products.

They are both different. One is said to be federal manufacture(bulk box 525) and the other (10 boxes of 50) is cci manufacture.
