194 lasered yards with a 400 grain .030 jacket Hawk bullet. First two shots on the shoulder and he just stood there and looked at me. Hawk bullets worked great. Totally pulverized both shoulders but it took about 30 seconds before he tipped over. Ten packs later it was a done deal. I have swore at least 5 or 6 times before that I would never shoot another moose but its for real this time. Just like the honeymoon the funs all over after you fire the first shot.
Used Reloader 7 and the load out of the AA manual for the .030 jacket 400 grain Hawks and I was very impressed with there perfomance in spite of the fact the bull didn't tip over right away. Haven't chronographed the load but have done a lot of practice with the load on my 200 yard steel gong. Try to get some photo's of the recovered bullets later as they totally penetrated both front shoulders and pulverized them and lodged under the hide on the off shoulder. I got the gun for carry/protection with Brown bear and will stick with the Hawks as they seem to do the job on the penetration I want. When you can bust up both shoulders on a Clydesdale size animal it should do the deed on growlers.
