What kind of base is this?

I have this No. 1 Mk III Lee Enfield with a base I can't find rings for.

Weaver and PH rings won;t clamp on as normal because there is no beveled edge to grab. Instead, there is a 1 cm wide ridge of metal on top of the base with beveled edges for rings to mount there. I've never seen anything like it.

What rings would I need?

That Weaver base uses the 3/8" Tip Off rings as used on .22 rifles. Get good ones; cheap aluminum rings may not hold securely. Make sure the front ring makes contact with the two little recoil shoulders.

Wasn't that unwise for the previous owner (or whoever) to put .22 bases on a 303?

Is there another standard base that fits that configuration on the LE with two screws front and one back that takes regular Weaver base rings?

The TO-1 has been made for years. Why Weaver doesn't use an extrusion with the larger profile used for their centerfire rings is beyond me.

Be careful with some of the 22 rings available. If the leading edge of the front ring is radiussed, it will damage the "nub" on the T- 01, and ultimately fail to hold. Seems to me this happened with Burris rings years ago - I switched to true Weavers and the problem was solved.
Yes - this mount is marginally fit-for-purpose. Using a relatively light scope (Weaver k2.5, etc) is not a bad idea - as it puts less demand on the rings and mounts.

Thats all weaver makes for a LE. They dont make a base with a weaver rail.

Where i work, we got a cnc guy tonmake ones up with a pic rail on top. But they are pricey, generaly more than a sporterized LE is worth.
