Just wondering what the heck these are doing way up here in Terrace, BC?

Hmmm
Looks like a few escapee's have wondered off into the forest
The fox and coyotes will probably get them
Can they fly, well, at least into a tree - short distance?
They don't seem to have much for wings - or brains.

guinea fowl can fly (i think better than a turkey from what i've seen) there used to be a couple of "wild" peacocks down the road from us i know one got hit by a car
imagine driving down the hiway and seeing peacock feather all over the place

Them bastages are fast, smart and can fly quite well!! My mom used to keep some of them around, and they are a bi**h to catch when they get loose!!!

Their feathers are also used a lot in fly tying.

They are a game bird in Africa, and fly quite well from the stories I've read. Taste good too.

Actually one of the four sub-species of Guinea Fowl, your photo is of a Helmeted Guinea Fowl ( numida meleagris ) ... native to Africa, introduced to France and the West Indies and domesticated elsewhere. Hunted as game
birds in Africa ... and I can attest - in Cuba.

The French refer to them as being the " Queen of Poultry ", and are the
"Sunday dinner bird of choice" in France & Italy.

I've had them many ways ... from roast whole birds to the basis of soup.
Certainly more flavourful than chicken and in some ways would remind you of pheasant. They can fly ... and run like hell too. Often used as "watchdogs" ...
they kick up a noisy fuss (like domestic geese) when someone or something
strange is around !

My father was into exotic fowl and racing pigeons. We had them on the farm for years when I was a kid. They would sit in the spruce trees along the driveway and announce the arrival of visitors with a very obnoxious cackle.

Another thing about them is that they loved to look at themselves. I would take the hardtop off my Jeep and leave it on the lawn. When I would return, there would be a whole herd of those crazy birds looking at themselves in the tinted glass.

I kinda like them, in a farm setting anyways.

We just left ours outside, loose. They stayed.
