I don't know anything about the ar15 stocks. So his custom stock has an adapter on the end and requires a buffer tube. Do I need the buffer spring or is that only for when the stock is on an ar15? I figure I would need a receiver plate, castle nut and the tube (and then a model of stock to put on the tube). How do I figure this out?

you got it hehehe
any buffer tube type buttstock that fits the AR family will fit my M14S-CQB although i have not found a side folding accessory that will work with the M14S-CQB
many commercially availlable collapseable buttstocks come as a kit with tube, lock plate, castlenut and adjustable buttstock.
there is no need to use or source the spring and buffer, they serve no purpose in this application. I do have clients that have been using the recoil reducing Endyne(?) buffer tube and reports have been good, but the standard buffer and spring offer no recoil reduction...... just extra weight hehehe

Called Enidine Hydraulic Recoil Stock

Cost $150 USD + shipping & government contribution's. All in all your looking @ $200 + for 1 of these unit's but only uses mil-spec stocks.

One more thing. I see on Magpul's website that they have two versions of every (or almost every) stock, one mil spec and the other commercial and it seems they are different sizes. What size would I need?

Oh, it's the tube not the adapter that is mil spec or commercial? So I could just get either tube then.

yep, thats right. Both use the same threading on the end.

Mil Spec has a more pronounced threading though, and GENERALLY are made of 7075 T6 Aluminum (whereas Commercial is USUALLY 6061 T6 which isn't quite as strong - but not an issue unless you're planning on buttstroking things quite often ;) )

Mil spec tubes are usually more expensive, and not usually a NEEDED upgrade for the cost.

the adaptor on the m14s-cqb is also 7075 T6 aluminum

for my stocks, commercial or milspec does not matter, any buffer tube that fits an AR should thread right in.

just ordered me one of them bad boys, had some of the same questions. DO i need the recieverend plate? and based on the fact that my rife has the full length barrel, I should avoid the ultra light buttstocks right?

Either going to go with the UBR or the PRS. I like the PRS for being cheaper and it seems like a good stock but the UBR weighs more I think and it might help to counterbalance the weight of the gun better. Any advice?

the PRS is a solid choice and one of my personal favorites.
one of the members from the lowermainland has his m14s-cqb dressed with the PRS, makes for a very nicely balanced firearm.

I want my M-14 doctor stock . :(
I accidentally left it at the last clinic and haven't gotten it back yet. :(

Now I feel sad. And it's raining outside. :(
