Just a question, but why would Maltby have the No.4 Mk1* stamp? They never produced the Mk1*, as far as I know it was only produced in Canada by Long Branch and the US by Savage.

Thats whats unusual is that the serial # starts with 1 which was designated to the maltby production rifles.

I have seen two models of Churchill sporters , the schnable like yours and there is another that is slighly more fancy with a contrasting dark tip on the forestock like parker hale or weatherby, not sure if it is just paint or a darker piece of wood ..either way yours looks to be in very nice shape and I would think would be worth in the $250 range.
