What kind of fish is this?

Looks like a carp or a sucker to me. Email it to a university prof in biology and see if they can identify it. Freeze the fish in case they're interested.
 
It's a cyprinid (carp and minnows) of some sort. It's a male, cause the white bumps are breeding tubercules. For ID, first use the list of known species in the spot it was caught, and try to match it up. Try googling "name of place" fish species.

It is a carp! and it is a minnow! LOL.

That would be a very large fathead minnow, they are normally only 3" long, biguns are up to 4" :)


Both minnows and carp are from the family Cyprinidae.

What exact species you have there is kinda hard to tell with the crappy pic.


Toss it in the garden, good for fertilizer.
 
thats ####ed. let it sit in a bucket of water overnight, if it glows in the dark then give it to a cat you dont like lol. that looks like something that comes out of the detroit river :eek:
 
Well I dont want it, if anyone wants it for their mother in law Id be glad to give it to you :D

If this thing is actually some nuclear fish would the MNR be interested? And will they pick it up?
 
I will go with joe-nwt; it is some kind of sucker. Certainly does not look like a carp to me. I would expect it to be edible although maybe not too much flavour

Red horse sucker, taste good canned with a bit of vinegar and ketchup(Manitoba Salmon)! Also heard they're good ground up and made into fish patties. Sucker is sold commercially as Mullet which is the main ingrediant in Rotten Ronnies Filet o' fish sandwiches etc. Enjoy with a a fresh Cabernet that isn't to presumptuous.:p
