What kind of mount do I need?

I have a Savage axis that has Weaver bases. I'm trying to mount my vortex scope to it with 2 ring mounts that are too far apart. The scope doesn't sit properly on it. What kind of mount would I need to get to fix this?

Just get yourself a 1 piece Picatinny base from MDT or a retailer of your choice.

You could also try off set Weaver rings... ugly as all get out as well... the thing I like best about Weaver is I don't use them... go with post 2...

Does it need to be a specific size or is it a universal size that should fit with no issues?

It needs to be a base made for the Savage axis...

Weaver makes an inexpensive 1 piece rail for the Axis. Cabella's usually has them on the rack.
