What kind of rails do I need (M14)?

I want to get some rails on it (maybe the UTG tri rail) but I also like the idea of a rear rail for scopes. But I also saw the Troy battle rail but it costs a hell of a lot more. Any advice? I'm kind of new to this. I've seen scopes mounted on the tri rail so do you really need a rear rail?

This is also interesting to me to , because im hoping to get either a Scope mount or the UTG rail this week to add some look to my m14.

They sell 2 versions of the UTG rail at Fabsports , they sell one with just the handguard cover and they also sell one that has a rear piece that replaces your stripper clip guide . So technically you have the best of both worlds with the second one , the ability to mount either forward or ontop of the action .

I just wish i could find a picture of the Leapers scope mount though , it seems it would be an ok beginner mount , its only 69.99 . UTG is 139.99 so the cost is negligible .

And I'm a little confused on what kind of rail you need for underneath the fore end. I'd like a vertical grip but only the expensive battle rails seem to have a rail underneath.

My question is how does the UTG rail measure up against a quality scope mount viz-a-vi things like holding zero?

the feedback from dozens and dozens of folks both on and off this site has been excellent. the utg tri rail is probably the best bang for the buck handguard rail set up going.
I'm not a fan of the airsoft grade rear stripper clip mount availlable for this unit..... BUT to be honest i have not had much feedback on it yet.
i have a rail accessory for the utg tri rail in at a manufacturer as we speak.... but it seems low priority for them to get made...... i hope it gets done sometime this decade

as for adding rails to your stock, either underneath or on the sides...... I can either A) supply you with anodized or unanodized picatinny in lengths up to 12 inches. pre drilled and tapped to suit your needs, and included stainless hard ware. rails mount by drilling stock and installing supplied screws through from inside. epoxy bed for permanent install.

or B) send in your stock and custom rail description and I'll professionally install for you.

this service applies to all makes and models and types of rifle stocks, wood, plastic, fiberglass, bipod rails, vert grip rails, full understock rails and side stock rails

and a word forthose who will listen about cheap scope mounts...... while they exist to fill a certain need in the market for low cost....... the only three cheap mounts (under 175.00) i have found to be worth looking at are the utg tri rail , the promag version of the arms18 (hard to find) and order proper arms bolts/screws for it and some folks have had good results with the deluxe marstar mount. The actions in these rifles are scope killers...... shock buffers do not help with this and imho have no place in the rifle anyways.
your money but my advice is a quality mount...... see the scope mount sticky thread at the top of this forum and educate thyself :D

I had just received a UTG hand guard rail and I'll be purchasing the rear stripper clip guide as well. Also on the list is a pair of the PROMAG mounts.
For the UTG rail (as well as for the PROMAG), I highly suggest getting an ARMS/SADLAK receiver bolt instead of the pathetic aluminum piece that comes with it.
