What kind of salt block is more stronger deer attractant ?

Rock salt is best as it dissolves and then the deer will use it, more so in the spring and summer. Farmer I know took a hand full on his walks and threw it in the same place. Over the years I have seen deer and other critters licking and eating the dirt so now after 25 years there is a trench probably six feet long and sloping down to 18" deep.

Good idea! I will try threw some rock salt there as well.

I put one out from a livestock feed store last year. 20lbs block was nearly gone when I went in this year to set up.

I’ve read big box store ones with a deer picture are more junk and work better as a “deer attractive”, while livestock ones are better for the herd health. Zero personal knowledge about the subject.

I don’t know about salt for wildlife, I put out blue cobalt salt for my cows. Sifto is by far the best at standing up to rain, some brands will melt away in a rain storm.

Any block will do - the trick to make it work is to stay still, do not make noises, turn off your cell phone (yes) they can see the glare of the screen and avoid the area. Do not wear any cloths that smell like weed. Good luck and enjoy your venison

We have been maintaining a salt lick for more than 20 years. The animals don't eat the salt directly but after the ground is saturated they will eat the dirt. We started off by digging a hole in a natural 2 ft. mound along a game trail and mixing in 10 lbs. of granulated mineral salt. We freshened every spring and fall for 2 years and now we only add every couple of years. The mound is gone and now there is a 15 ft. crater with the brush and undergrowth cleared for 60 ft. around the lick. We have never hunted over the lick but having it on the property keeps the wildlife around year long and is a benefit for them.

putting out deer licks is not illegal, it's part of heard management

Hunting over bait however is illegal for deer in Alberta

I have a block of 'deer mineral lick' I got from Reavy Mart out in my backyard that the deer have finally found, same doe and yearling have been visiting now every night for 2 weeks straight.

they were on sale a few months back

Find an old stump near your stand.. It's best if you can attach the salt block to the stump so it stays in place. What I do is drill a hole into the salt block and then drive a long spike part way into the stump. Set the block on the stump.
The rain and snow melt will leach the salt into the ground and wood of the stump. The deer like to dig up the salty ground and chew on the stump.
Salt blocks can be found at any feed store like Peavey Mart.
