what knife do you use to field dress your game?

Carbon blade sharp ,size is of no consequence.I once finished + dressed a cow elk with a 1" bladed Victorinox folder.........larger blade was dull.

I’m a die hard grohman man. I carry a boat knife on my belt at all times hunting so field dressing is done with it. When it’s skinning time I have my large skinner that I use. Both are high quality and keep a great edge. IMHO this is a knife you buy for a lifetime of use..

Same here. I've got a companion and a craftline pro C in my bag, and a bahco brand (looks identical to the companion basically, exact same shape with different handle material, I wouldn't be surprised if they came off the same assembly line) in the truck. The bahco was $12 from Amazon, I'm going to grab another for my fishing bag soon.

I bought a few of these too. They work well. I've done a bunch of cutting this year, they sharpen well, and the sheath is excellent.

Have many Grohman knives but don't care for the steel they are using now.Have several ulu's made from carbon steel in Alaska. No better knife for peeling moose.

Buckknives Folding 110 Hunter. Still have the one that my Grandfather gave me as a kid, the one santa gave me for Christmas one year, and several that were given to me to cut and repair hoses underground when I worked summers for Falconbridge while in University. Brass and 420 Hc Stainless. Simple!

I have used the Outdoor Edge Flip n' Zip knife for gutting for the past few years, i've found it makes avoiding the stomach lining very very easy, but i hate using folders for anything beyond that, so once it's opened up i switch to a Mora for everything else.

I have a number of knives but for deer I use 2 Grohmann Trout and bird knives, switching off halfway through because I always like working with a nice sharp knife.

when I was young I had an old trapper teach me how to field dress an animal
he was a true bush woodsman
since then I have used one of two knives now for 45 years
a g96 buck knife and a smith and Wesson bowie knife
the smith and Wesson bowie knife has a 14 inch blade
I use that for mainly skinning moose and elk
I use the full length of the blade while skinning
5 or six full length swipes I'm done one side flip the carcass over,
same thing
the buck knife I use for splitting briskets and pelvic bones on deer and starting the hide on moose or elk
45 years and this two knife system has never failed me,
many people that have been with me and witnessed my method just stand back and scratch their heads in awe
cant stand those little short blade glorified pocket knife things they call hunting knives, that use little tiny cuts, they are mainly built to cut deep gashes
in yer hands and fingers
to me those are for little kids
that still like to whittle on sticks and play with themselves
