What knife for fleshing hide? Advise needed

I just use the back of an old sawblade. It's just sharp enough to scrape away the membrane and other "tasty bits" without harming the hide. I've tanned quite a few deer hides this way with great results. For any really stubborn spots, I turn the blade around and use the teeth gently to tear the membrane away. I also plan on taking a bear this year and tanning it myself.

I tan a few hides each year and use a Guillotine blade held with two off cuts of brake hose on the ends. Thats what it is, the taxidermy supply company market it as a specialist fleshing tool, cheeky sods, still I bought it and it was less than a tenner!

How about an Ulu? I think folks use them for about everything.

I have always been tempted to purchase one of these critters.
I think once one got a good handle on it, it would be a breeze.
Need to pay attention to the other end as most are use to one
sharp pointed end.
More skinny would get done with fewer motions for those with carpal
tunnel issues.

an ulo (Eskimo knife) is great for removing the heavy fat and meat that sticks to the hide after skinning. I did work in a shop for about a year and on a beam or log the ulo works great. They are sharpened from one edge only and they ride the inside of the hide very well.
