What is a good length of of pull for hunting rifle with thick clothes on? I'm 5'10" tall. My gunsmith told me to get a 13.25 lop on my rifle for hunting, and during range work just where a recoil pad, he said it would feel better and I would not have to crawl towards the scope. Is it a good length or should I go for a little longer? It is going to be McMillan Rem mountain hunter.
Thanks Elmer

13.25 is shorter than standard, 13 1/2 to 13 3/4 seems to be normal. It depends on what you like, how tall your head is, how long your arms are, I'm 6'2" with a 35 inch sleeve and a big head and I like 14 inches.

Try a few and see. 14.5" is a tad short for me, but it's really hard to get a properly proportioned stock much longer than that. I'm 6'7"

Shoerter LOP isn't as much of a problem than one that's too long for you, especially in harder recoiling cartridges

The length of pull is different for everybody. A quick, close but not perfect test to find what you need is to put a yard stick in your elbow and grasp it like you would a rifle. Where your trigger finger is will be very close.
If you're 'crawling' the stock, it's too short for you.
"...where a recoil pad..." It goes on the butt stock. However, PAST makes one you can wear.

Definitely try before you cut... not nice getting a thumb in your eye or a scope kiss.

I cut all of my guns about 1/2" except for my Tikka T3s, they fit just fine. These i can shoot in a t-shirt or with a winter coat.

I am around 5'7" or so.
